Update: What Jeff Goldblum Enjoyed About His Jurassic World 2 Role

Jurassic Park star Jeff Goldblum is dropping some hints about the return of his character Dr. Ian Malcolm in the Jurassic World sequel Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Released in 2015, Jurassic World marked a monstrous return of the Jurassic Park franchise, 14 years afters after it wrapped up the original film trilogy with Jurassic Park III. Scoring an astounding $1.671 billion at the global box office (only to be outdone by the $2.068 billion worldwide that Star Wars: The Force Awakens also scored in 2015), the Colin Trevorrow-directed film was a lock for a sequel, with stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard returning.

Yet for all Jurassic World had going for it, there was little in the way of nostalgia for fans regarding the return of cast members the original Jurassic Park trilogy, apart from the reprisal of the character of Dr. Henry Wu, who was played once again by B.D. Wong. Therefore, it didn't come as a surprise that fans were ecstatic to learn of the return of Goldblum for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, playing the lovably quirky mathematician and Chaos Theory "chaotician" Malcolm for the 2018 sequel.

Of course, a lot of time has passed since fans last saw Malcolm in 1997's The Lost World: Jurassic Park II, so naturally the curiosity factor is pretty high about his involvement in Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom. In an interview with Radio Times for his upcoming film Thor: Ragnarok, Goldblum was careful not to spill too many details about Malcolm's involvement in the Jurassic World follow-up, but helped build anticipation for the return of the character nonetheless. He says:

Jeff Goldblum laughs at the crowd as the Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarok.

“Ian Malcolm, yes, might be back in this one, and he might have something to say about the current confluence of circumstances around the use and misuse of technology. With some wry irony, deep wise passionate conviction, and he might put on a nice dark bit of clothing here and there … and a tint of glass maybe.”

Goldblum also went on to explain what Malcolm's been up to in the past 20 years, imagining the character has been playing things pretty low key. He says:

"What's he been in the meantime? He opened a jazz club, probably, and he's been playing every Wednesday in a place called Rockwell. He calls it Rockwell."

Judging by his quick, off-the-cuff musings about Malcolm's life without dinosaurs, Goldblum no doubt will be a welcome addition to an already promising Jurassic World sequel. The gifted actor is memorable in every film that he's in, and certainly he was a big part of the success enjoyed by the first two Jurassic Park movies. In a well-placed bit of timing for Goldblum, the actor's hotly anticipated appearance in Thor: Ragnarok as Grandmaster will help amp up the anticipation for his turn in Jurassic World on June 22, 2018, and it can't come soon enough.
