[UPDATE: Trailer Track has been informed by Universal that the studio will not be dropping the Fallen Kingdom trailer on Thursday after all. The studio has also taken down the original trailer premiere announcement video.]
The first trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will debut on Thursday, November 30th during NBC's Thursday Night Football. The first footage from the film, a brief scene of star Chris Pratt having a friendly moment with a baby dinosaur, premiered last week.
Planned as the middle chapter in a trilogy, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom picks up where the blockbuster 2015 Jurassic World left off, after humans once again made the massive mistake of creating a theme park filled with real dinosaurs. A Monster Calls director J.A. Bayona takes over the reins from director Colin Trevorrow, who did co-write the script for the sequel, and remained involved in production. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return as the leads, joined by original Jurassic Park star Jeff Goldblum, who is back in the iconic role of mathematician/philosopher/hunk Ian Malcolm.
While the above video confirms that the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom trailer will launch on Thursday, Trailer Track is reporting that the teaser will debut during NBC's Thursday Night Football game between Dallas and Washington, before being released online. Star Wars: The Last Jedi also debuted a trailer during Monday Night Football, generating a lot of hype on social media but not necessarily a great boost in ratings for the NFL presentation. Thursday could be a big day for trailers, with Avengers: Infinity War possibly dropping its first trailer on that same day.
Steven Spielberg's original Jurassic Park was a monster hit when it thundered into theaters during the summer of 1993, wowing audiences with its computer-generated dinosaurs and thrilling Michael Crichton-created storyline. Two sequels followed, after which the franchise went into hiatus, CGI dinosaurs having passed into the realm of cheesiness. However, the Jurassic Park brand would prove to be more durable than anyone anticipated; in 2015, Jurassic World arrived in theaters and soared to $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office.
The sequel Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom promises to bring back fan favorite dinos from the previous film, including the massive Indominus Rex, while also introducing intriguing new creatures. Plot details are being kept secret, but it's safe to assume the film won't stray far from the Jurassic Park formula of dinosaurs running amok while humans try desperately not to get stomped on, eaten or otherwise mauled.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom also stars Toby Jones, Ted Levine, James Cromwell, BD Wong, Rafe Spall and Geraldine Chaplin. Jake Johnson alas is not returning to reprise the role of slovenly technician Lowery Cruthers.
