Set to reprise their roles in this summer's Jurassic World Dominion, the original cast of Jurassic Park discuss the level of secrecy that came with releasing a film in the pre-internet age. Following on from the events of 2018's Jurassic World: Fallen KingdomDominion is this third installment in the Jurassic World franchise, which sees Chris Pratt star as Owen Brady and Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire Dearing. The final moments of Fallen Kingdom teased a new world in which dinosaurs and humans are forced to co-exist, a terrifying concept that is set to be explored in Dominion, which is set to hit theatres in June this year.

While this exciting new Jurassic World installment was highly anticipated by many already, audiences were delighted by the news that the original Jurassic Park cast would be returning to reprise their legacy roles alongside Pratt and Howard. Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum originally starred in Steven Spielberg's 1993 classic, Jurassic Park, which first introduced the idea of playing god with dinosaur DNA. Neill starred as Dr. Alan Grant, Dern as Dr. Ellie Sattler, and Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm. Goldblum's Malcolm made a brief appearance in Fallen Kingdom, offering the world an ominous warning as to the potential impacts of altering the course of natural history. Now, with their exciting return just around the corner, the original cast have discussed a major difference between the creation of Dominion and Jurassic Park.

In conversation with Vanity Fair, Neill, Dern, and Goldblum discussed how production on Jurassic Park was granted a considerably greater amount of secrecy when compared to the Jurassic World franchise, given that the original film was created in a pre-internet world. Dern shared that, during the film's production, no one was entirely sure what Spielberg's movie was even about. Goldblum recalled, however, they were never specifically told that they couldn't discuss the film's use of dinosaurs. Check out the cast's discussion below.

Neill: We didn’t have an interweb in those days.

Goldblum: On a lot of these projects…you’re like, oh, yes, I won’t tell anybody. But I don’t remember specifically that we were [asked], don’t reveal the dinosaurs or anything.

Dern: I think no one really understood what we were up to, just Steven Spielberg was making a movie, and it might have something to do with dinosaurs. I remember when we received our first script of Jurassic Park, it was on red paper. Do you remember that? You couldn’t copy it. So old school.

Neill: I don’t remember a red-paper thing, people might have been a little concerned with Laura Dern and discretion.

Given the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jurassic World: Dominion has been subject to a number of delays, with the film originally slated for release in 2021. With just under two months to go, the film's promotional run has officially kicked into gear, with a number of teasers having offered small glimpses of these beloved legacy characters. However, much of the film's plot still remains shrouded in mystery despite readily available internet and social media sites. Neill, Dern, and Goldblum have opened up about their Jurassic return on a number of occasions, with Goldblum recently revealing that the trio actually stayed in touch following their time on Jurassic Park, making for an even sweeter reunion in Dominion.

Almost 30 years on from the original, times have most definitely changed since these stars last stepped onto a dino-filled set. In the somewhat unforgiving age of the internet, it's certainly difficult to keep anything a secret when it comes to the world of big-budget movies; something that Neill, Dern, and Goldblum will likely be all the more familiar with now. For the most part, the secrets of Jurassic World Dominion have been kept largely under wraps, meaning it will be all the more exciting when the film finally hits theatres on June 10.
