Elon Musk's partner at his company, Neuralink, tweeted that they have the technology to build their own Jurassic Park. Neuralink was founded by Musk in 2016 and the company's main priority is to treat serious brain diseases, such as Alzheimer's and dementia. Interestingly enough, his idea for the company stemmed form another piece of sci-fi - The Culture series written by Iain Banks.

Neuralink's long-term goal is human enhancement with a device that Musk coins as "neural lace." Musk discussed this idea at the Code Conference in 2016 and stated that it would be "a digital layer; sort of a third layer above the cortex [of the brain]" with the goal of strengthening human capabilities focusing on our output of knowledge (i.e., getting what is in our brain out at a more efficient rate).

Along with these groundbreaking concepts, Musk's partner, Max Hodak, tweeted on April 4 claiming that Neuralink could probably design their own Jurassic Park involving, "maybe 15 years of breeding and engineering to get super exotic novel species." Unfortunately, Hodak didn't elaborate on what specific technology would help them achieve this, but it's certainly an exciting declaration to be able to make, particularly for a sci-fi nerd like Musk. He also clarified that the dinosaurs would not be genetically authentic. Check out Hodak's tweet below:

To the dismay of some crazed fans, it looks like this re-creation, even with its genetic fabrications, may be the closest the world could ever get to a real Jurassic Park. The Natural History Museum discussed the possibilities of bringing dinosaurs back to life with dinosaur researcher, Dr. Susie Maidment who expressed her doubts. Firstly, Jurassic Park's inventive idea for resurrecting dinosaurs involving a DNA-filled mosquito that had been preserved in amber for millions of years is far-fetched to say the least, as no blood is preserved within amber. But even so, there are no other scenarios in which Maidment could rationally conceive of that would achieve this lofty goal.

So, until Neuralink decides to use its technology to satisfy every nerd's fantasy of a real Jurassic Park, it looks like the various dinosaur amusement parks around the world will have to suffice. Although as Maidment wisely noted, quoting Dr Malcom himself, "Just because you can, doesn't mean that you should".
