The latest trailer for Disney's Jungle Cruise goes hard on the action for Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt's live-action adventure while also revealing Jesse Plemons' villain. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, Jungle Cruise was originally supposed to open in theaters last summer. As has happened with every major movie once scheduled for 2020, it was bumped to 2021 amid the pandemic. That wouldn't be the only change dealt to Jungle Cruise, however, as the movie is also now slated to premiere in theaters and on Disney+'s Premier Access platform this July.

Jungle Cruise is based on the Disneyland ride of the same name, though it promises to be a lot more thrilling than the casual boat trip. Blunt stars as Dr. Lily Houghton, a fiercely determined woman who enlists riverboat captain Frank (Johnson) to ferry her and her brother (Jack Whitehall) through the jungle in search of a mystical tree that is said to have incredible healing properties. Along the way, they encounter numerous threats, including wild animals and a competing expedition. Jungle Cruise also stars Édgar Ramírez, Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti.

Thursday morning, Disney unveiled the latest trailer for Jungle Cruise. If there was any doubt that there would be excitement found within the long-established ride, this trailer squashes it. Between the supernatural creatures and a rushing waterfall, the heroes have a lot to contend with. Plus, there's Plemons' German bad guy Prince Joachim, who fires off quite the surprise for Lily and Frank in the trailer. Check it out down below.

Even before any footage was released, Jungle Cruise drew a fair amount of comparisons to Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise due to its origins as a theme park ride. Now that more of the movie has been revealed in the above trailer, it's even more clear that Jungle Cruise has at least pulled some inspiration from the swashbuckling movies. The various villains Frank and Lily go up against in the trailer feel like they could fit within Pirates of the Caribbean, though the riverboat setting and characters also signal it won't be a carbon copy. If Jungle Cruise plays its cards right, it could kick off a new franchise.

Based on the banter of this latest trailer, Blunt and Johnson have good chemistry together that can make Jungle Cruise extra fun. Much of the attention has been placed on them so far, but Plemons' brief comedic introduction hints he'll be a standout. Plemons might be better known for his dramatic roles, but as 2018's Game Night proved, he's got a knack for funnier stuff. It'll be quite fun to see him go toe-to-toe with Blunt and Johnson in Jungle Cruise when it sails into theaters and Disney+ in two months.
