The summer months usually mean the movie theaters will be brimming with the latest comic book hero adventures, flashy action flicks, and blockbuster animated family films. Sony Pictures is hoping their Jumanji, a sort-of-sequel to the 1995 film of the same name — now starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black — will score a big audience with its blend of fantasy, action, and family-fun elements.
The new film will dive into the jungle world of Jumanji, with The Rock and company portraying the avatars of four kids playing an updated version of the game. This will mark a definite departure for fans of the original film, since it appears the classic board game and all its jungle creatures brought to life in the real world have been shifted to the realm of video games. But that move will likely help confirm the notion that this is a continuation of the original film, and not a straight-up remake.
Filming began in Hawaii this past September, and the cast have been working hard to create buzz on social media with a flurry of set photos and entertaining videos. There have been two recurring themes in all this news coming from the Jumanji set. First, The Rock seems perpetually full of energy and good spirits. Second, filming has had its challenges, including some relentless rain and a frightening array of creepy-crawlies. The latest video from Johnson, which you can watch below, features the seriously pumped-up star and a less-than-enthused Hart now battling through freezing conditions for an action sequence.
While it’s no surprise to see The Rock this excited about his day job, he’s been extra amped about finally getting to the biggest action sequences. He recently posted that he’d been waiting patiently through all the comedy and drama scenes, and “finally, tonight – Saturday night – all night – I get to knuckle up with my stunt brothers and I get to beat some ass like a drum.” His fellow “BAMF,” however, appears to be wishing he was at home, in front of a fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa.
The two actors elevated the silly action/comedy Central Intelligence with their onscreen chemistry, and it’s a good bet their crazy bromance will help make the new Jumanji a fun ride as well. However well the film does, we suspect Johnson and Hart will find another reason to work together in future, though it’s likely that Hart will be requesting a much more comfortable locale.
