The first photo from the set of Jumanji 3 has been shared on social media, revealing that the in-game characters played by Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan will look identical to their Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle versions. It may not feel like much of a reveal at the outset, but this new photo actually gives fans a big hint about what to expect for the next Jumanji installment.

In the wake of the success of 2017's Welcome to the Jungle, which included the film raking in $957 million at the box office, it felt inevitable that a second film would be greenlit. That was the case when confirmation on Jumanji 3 was reported in April 2018. Production officially began on the follow-up in February, with  Johnson, Hart, Black, and Gillan all set to return as well as Welcome to the Jungle cast members Nick Jonas and Rhys Darby. Additionally, Danny DeVito, Awkwafina, and Dania Ramirez have been added, but the roles they'll be playing have been kept under wraps. Similarly, little is known about the plot for Jumanji 3, leaving plenty of room for speculation about what direction this new adventure will take the cast in.

In a photo shared on Jumanji 3 producer Hiram Garcia's Twitter account, fans get their first glimpse at Johnson, Hart, Black, and Gillan in the middle of the marketplace set featured in Welcome to the Jungle. Garcia included a captioned that both rhymed and teased the film's holiday 2019 release: "The gang is back! It’s your favorite team! Even though some things aren’t as they seem. So buckle up tight cause soon we’ll all play. When a brand new #Jumanji drops this Holiday!"

The confirmation that the in-game characters in Jumanji 3 will be the same may not feel like much of a tease, but rest assured, it is. The photo posted by Garcia confirms that Jumanji 3 will once again nod to the nature of video games, where characters always stay in the same costume (provided the person playing them doesn't add upgrades, which could also happen in Jumanji 3). Having the in-game characters photographed in a familiar location similarly indicates that these characters will be returning to familiar territory in Jumanji 3, and if that's really the case, then fans might be able to further speculate why the in-game characters are going back to a place they've already visited.

And speaking of familiar territory, we know that Jumanji 3 will have plenty of connections to the original Jumanji film (confirmed by director Jake Kasdan back in August 2018), so we should keep an eye out for any photos or teasers that hint at the return of characters from the 1995 film. There's still so much more to learn about Jumanji 3 and its new storyline, but this new photo gives fans a solid idea of what can be expected when it comes to the main quartet of in-game characters.
