Warning: This contains SPOILERS for the Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2While the second season of the hit anime Jujutsu Kaisen was announced at the beginning of the year, the only information provided was that fans should expect to see it sometime in 2023. Now, per an official announcement from the anime's producer, fans have a clearer idea of when Season 2 will be airing, namely in the Summer of 2023.
Season 1, which debuted in October 2020 and ended with Episode 24 in March 2021, more or less covers the first four story arcs of the manga by Gege Akutami. Jujutsu Kaisen viewers were introduced to Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara Kugisaki, the main characters of the series, at least during its beginning phases. The series sees Yuji enter the jujutsu sorcerer community by eating a long-dead sorcerer's cursed finger, as well as how the three students strengthen and expand their sorcerer powers. Perhaps most importantly, the series depicts how the three grow together as a team, and as friends. In addition, viewers learn just how strange it is to work as a jujutsu sorcerer dealing with the myriad of cursed spirits and evil sorcerers running rampant across the land. The series' first season provides all that is needed to comprehend the mind-boggling events that will take place in Season 2.
The official announcement of Jujutsu Kaisen's second season occurred during the Jump Festa livesteam. Jump Festa is Shueisha Publication's annual event, convened every December, that focuses on giving special attention and quality time to the manga titles, and their anime adaptations, which are published by its line of manga-focused Jump magazines. While an exact date was not included in the announcement, it did state that episodes will start airing sometime in July 2023. Moreover, according to Jujutsu Kaisen's official Twitter account, the announcement also provided a short preview of what's in store for the second season.
What Will Happen In Jujutsu Kaisen's Second Season
Whereas the first season focused on the current generation of emerging jujutsu sorcerers; as the preview makes clear, the second season will focus on the prior generation. In particular, the series will tell of the development of young Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto, two amazingly powerful jujutsu sorcerers who were destined to become the greatest sorcerers of all time until an unfortunate incident caused one of the two to question the usefulness of sorcery and the worthiness of using it to save human life. It's a much darker theme than the first season and the standalone movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which premiered in December 2021. But is it one of the most important stories in the series as it gives context to much of what happened in the first season
As such Season Two will introduce several new characters including Megumi's father, Maki's uncle Toji Fushiguro, Riko Amanai, and Shoko Ieiri. In addition, many of the characters in Season One such as Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara should be reprising their roles at some point. Judging from the announcement, while the second season of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime would catch up to the manga, it will bring it up to the beginning of the current storyline.
