Warning! Spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen Manga Chapter 190

After wiping out several branches of her family clan, Maki Zenin enters Jujutsu Kaisen's Culling Game with a new attitude and newfound abilities that threaten to disrupt the games' carefully crafted rules.

The Culling Game was initiated by Kenjaku as part of his pursuit to "evolve humanity" and harken a "new age of jujutsu sorcery" with him as the central power. A massive "battle royale" in specially connected colonies across Japan, the Culling Game involves players Kenjaku created, as well as anyone outside the colonies who voluntarily entered into one. Forced to enter the game in order to save Megumi's sister Tsumiki, and find a sorcerer who could free Satoru Gojo from the Prison Realm Yuji, Yuta, Megumi, and other students from Tokyo's Jujutsu High School must comply with the game's onerous rules which require them to kill others or be killed by having their curse techniques removed. The Culling Games also ban communication between colonies and prohibits escaping the colony system once participants enter into it.

The rules of the game seriously limit Yuji and his classmate's ability to accomplish their goals without killing others or getting killed themselves. Enter Maki Zenin. A "sorcerer" to which the rules do not apply. Maki has always been an outlier in the sorcerer community. Having almost no cursed energy, she nevertheless had strength, speed, and durability at near superhero-level proportions. After her twin sister, Mai sacrificed herself, in Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen #149, to save Maki by removing the last vestiges of cursed energy she retained, the limits on her physical abilities that the energy had imposed were released. Maki not only survived but also found her physical powers increased to a degree far superior to any sorcerer or curse. She also came out of the transformation with a new "kill them all" mindset.

The New Maki Zenin

The "new" Maki obliterates two of the Culling Game's most limiting rules. First, since she no longer has any cursed energy, she need not fear its removal or her death if she decides to refrain from killing others. She in essence can do as she wishes in a colony without the gamemaster being able to penalize her. Second, without cursed energy, she can make herself invisible to sorcerers and curses. That is, she can move in, out, and between colonies without the gamemaster or Kogane referees the wiser.

The genius of having Maki participate is that now, Yuji, Yuta, Megumi, and the rest of the team, which is currently split between three colonies, can now communicate with one another through Maki's ability to slip in and out of a colony without being noticed. She can also perform her own solo search ops in colonies without the required killings. Moreover, with Maki's new level of physical prowess, she certainly could provide team members with serious "combat support" services. That is, Maki Zenin's entrance into the game significantly increases the chance for the team to successfully complete their mission, and maybe save the Jujutsu Kaisen world by stopping the game before Kenjaku achieves his goals.
