Even though the series has been very successful, Jujutsu Kaisen's creator Gege Akutami revealed that the manga will end within the next two years. The series has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since March of 2018, and it has continually posted updates every week. MAPPA, the same studio that is working on Attack on Titan's anime adaptation, picked up the series last year. They've done a tremendous job, and the series' popularity has soared into the sky. The manga consistently hits the top spot in sales ranking, as well as popularity votes.

Jujutsu Kaisen is set in a world full of curses. Like other series have magic, mana, or Ether, Jujutsu Kaisen uses Cursed Energy, which is really what it sounds like. Born from humans' negative emotions, Cursed Energy flows out and gives rise to  demon-like creatures called Curses. However, there are also individuals who can utilize this Cursed Energy and use it to exorcise Curses. These individuals are called Jujutsu Sorcerers. Interestingly, Yuji Itadori, the protagonist, houses the strongest Curse in the series and is a Jujutsu Sorcerer. Like Naruto, he's a strong weapon, but also a very grave threat to humanity.

Anime Corner reported that Gege Akutami agreed to appear on a variety show called Mandou Kobayashi after Jujutsu Kaisen won the show's Manga Award contest. But since he values his anonymity, he appeared disguised as Mechamaru, a robot-controlling Jujutsu Sorcerer. During the interview, Gege Akutami revealed that he is already planning to end Jujutsu Kaisen within the next two years.

He reiterated that he already knows what to do with the major characters. Both Megumi and Itadori's fates are already sealed in his mind. However, he also added that the fate of the known strongest Curse in the series, Sukuna, is still up in the air. He is still uncertain as to what to do with it.

Gege Akutami's revelation is no doubt shocking to fans as the series is doing very well. It has seen great success in terms of sales and popularity. On the other hand, it's not the first time a series has ended during its peak popularity. In fact, Koyoharu Gotouge's Demon Slayer also ended during its prime when fans thought that it would run for a bit longer. On one hand, this guarantees to a certain extent that the series' quality will not dwindle. But on the other hand, it also means Jujutsu Kaisen's fans only have a limited chapters left to consume.
