After 25 years on her usual TV bench, Judge Judy Sheindlin, 78, is slated to host a new show on Amazon Studios’ free streaming service, IMDb TV. The as-yet-untitled show is considered a follow-up to her popular, long-running Judge Judy syndicated series. That series ceased production last May.

Judge Judy will come to an end after the 2020-2021 season. In more than five weeks of shows this season, the series averaged approximately eight million viewers. Judy began her run on the show in 1996. Her reported salary of $47 million per year pushed her into the leading position on the Forbes list of highest-paid TV hosts of 2018. In addition to Judge Judy, Judy Sheindlin is the creator and executive producer of another syndicated courtroom show called Hot Bench from CBS TV Distribution. Moreover, she is the Guinness World Record holder for the longest career as a TV judge. In terms of syndication ratings, Judy maintained the leading position for 11 years and is expected to run away with that honor again, during next year’s final season. After negotiations for new seasons of Judge Judy broke down with CBS TV Distribution, Sheindlin was searching for a new home for her courtroom drama. In 2019, she sold the rights to her Judge Judy library, which featured over 5,000 episodes, for approximately $100 million.

The new IMDb TV series will showcase her patented judicial style and feature a cornucopia of new cases, plaintiffs, and verdicts. Sheindlin told The Wrap that she’s overjoyed about the new partnership. “I’m over the moon to be in business with Amazon Studios and continuing this incredible journey with them on a new platform is so exciting,” said Sheindlin. IMDb TV’s two co-heads of content and programming also are excited about Judy joining the company. “Judge Judy Sheindlin is a TV icon and visionary who has entertained millions of fans for decades", stated Lauren Anderson and Ryan Pirozzi. “As we build the IMDb TV slate of high-quality, ambitious Amazon Studios Originals, we are delighted to deliver customers a court program from the legendary Judge Sheindlin who, without a doubt, is the very best in the business.” Judy has been hanging tough since the pandemic began, as seen in her tweet (with pic) below:

The new untitled Judith Sheindlin project is rumored to be selected to shoot more than 100 episodes and is said to be IMDb TV’s largest initial show order. No word yet as to whether the new show will be released through daily or weekly episodes, or in clusters. Based on her icon status, long-running history, and consistently huge Judge Judy audience, there’s no doubt she will bring a large audience of fresh eyes to the IMDb TV platform.
