Jude Law has become a household name after years of excellent performances and well-chosen film projects. Most recently, you might have seen him in big blockbuster films like Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, where he played Albus Dumbledore, or as Yon-Rogg in Captain Marvel.

He has been nominated for Academy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, BAFTAs, and even won the Honorary Cesar in 2007. His big breakout came from the 1999 psychological thriller, The Talented Mr. Ripley, and since then he has become a force to be reckoned with on-screen. We're looking at his ten best roles of all time.

Pitch Black (Rise of the Guardians)

Rise of the Guardians is one of the few animated movies Jude Law has lent his voice to. The movie was released in 2012 and follows William Joyce's Guardians of Children book series. Despite being a bomb at the box office, the film did garner positive critical praise. Law voiced the character Pitch Black, an evil bogeyman with plans to send the world plummeting into darkness.

Along with Law, other actors who lent their voices to the cast are Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, and Isla Fisher. The film was nominated for several awards, and Law himself was nominated for an Annie Award for his voice-acting.

Errol Flynn (The Aviator)

In 2004, Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio teamed up to create the epic biopic The Aviator. The story is based on the 1993 non-fiction book titled Howard Hughes: The Secret Life. As you would expect, the movie is about the life of Hughes with DiCaprio playing the lead. Jude Law portrays Errol Flynn, an actor during the Golden Age of Hollywood.

He was known for his romantic leading man capabilities, particularly as Robin Hood and in the movie San Antonio. The Aviator was nominated for eleven Academy Awards in addition to a Screen Actors Guild Award for the ensemble cast. Powerhouses like Cate Blanchett and Kate Beckinsale also starred.

Bradley Fine (Spy)

Jude Law got to show off his acting chops in this Paul Fieg film starring Melissa McCarthy. He plays field agent Bradley Fine. McCarthy's character, Susan Cooper, is infatuated with Fine and works as his remote assistant back at the CIA. When it appears Fine has been murdered, Cooper is forced into the field to track him down.

We find out later that Law is a triple agent, pretending to work for the enemy while still helping the CIA. Law is charismatic as the bumbling but charming Bradley Fine in this hilarious film that also stars Rose Byrne, Jason Statham, Miranda Hart, Bobby Cannavale, and Allison Janney.

Dr. John Watson (Sherlock Holmes)

Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law lead this 2009 action film directed by Guy Ritchie about the infamous Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. It follows the investigation into a brutal string of murders by Lord Blackwood, a known lover of the dark arts. Sherlock Holmes debuted to positive response and did well at the box office.

A sequel was made and a third movie is said to be on the way. It was also nominated for two Academy Awards, one for Best Original Score and one for Best Art Direction. RDJ won a Golden Globe for his performance. Jude Law was nominated for a Saturn Award. The chemistry between the two leads is one of the strongest elements of the film.

Harlen Maguire (Road to Perdition)

In Road to Perdition, Jude Law portrays a sinister hitman who moonlights as an obsessive, voyeuristic, crime scene photographer. His name is Harlan Maguire and the character was created by David Self specifically for the film, which was originally based on the graphic novel by Max Allan Collins.

For his work in the antagonistic role, Jude Law was nominated for three separate awards: Empire Award for Best British Actor, London Film Critics Awards for Best British Supporting Actor, and Phoenix Film Critics Society Award for Best Supporting Actor. The movie also starred a young Tyler Hoechlin, Paul Newman, Tom Hanks, Stanley Tucci, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Daniel Craig.

Gigolo Joe (A.I. Artificial Intelligence)

A movie dedicated to Stanley Kubrick directed by Steven Spielberg could hardly be anything but a masterpiece. Jude Law plays Gigolo Joe in this science-fiction drama and he actually learned how to dance ballet specifically for the role. In the special features, he also talks about studying the acting styles of Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, because his character in the film learns how to act by doing the same thing.

The movie was nominated for two Academy Awards and Law was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in the film. His character is a male Mecha, humanoid robots that are capable of complex thought - sort of like those we see on HBO's Westworld. The movie also stars Haley Joel Osment, Frances O'Connor, Brendan Gleeson, and William Hunt.

Dan Woolf (Closer)

Closer was originally an award-winning play written by Patrick Marber in 1997. The film adaptation stars Natalie Portman, Jude Law, Julia Roberts, and Clive Owen. The movie is a romantic drama and the entire cast is impeccable in their roles. For their work, Natalie Portman and Clive Owen were nominated for both an Academy Award and Golden Globe, winning the Globes.

Law's character, Dan Woolf, is an unsuccessful writer who falls in love with Portman's character, Alice, whereas Clive Owen's character, Larry Gray, is married to Anna Cameron (Julia Roberts). Before long, Dan and Anna begin an affair and the film devolves into a tangled mess of complicated relationships.

Lenny Belardo (The Young Pope)

Transitioning from film to television, Jude Law starred in the 10-episode miniseries on HBO titled The Young Pope. He played Lenny Belardo, an uber-conservative Italian American Cardinal who is elected Pope. However, no one is quite prepared for what he has planned for the church moving forward.

Despite Law's performance garnering tons of praise, he was snubbed at the Emmy Awards, although he did receive a Golden Globe nomination for his performance. The show itself did receive two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Cinematography and Outstanding Production Design.

W.P. Inman (Cold Mountain)

Cold Mountain is an Oscar-winning war film based on the 1997 novel by Charles Frazier. Renee Zellweger won the Academy Award for her performance in this film along with numerous other awards. Jude Law was also nominated for an Academy Award, Golden Globe, BAFTA, Empire Award, IFTA Award, Satellite Award, MTV Movie Award, and London Film Critics Award.

His character in the film, W.P. Inman, is a carpenter who has fallen in love with Nicole Kidman's Ada Munroe. The movie follows Inman, who is a Civil War Confederate soldier, as he heads home to Ada, but his long journey home is far from an easy one. The film also stars Brendan Gleeson, Donald Sutherland, and Eileen Atkins.

Dickie Greenleaf (The Talented Mr. Ripley)

Dickie Greenleaf was the role that launched Jude Law into the Hollywood stratosphere. His performance in The Talented Mr. Ripley earned him a Golden Globe and Academy Award nomination. It cemented his status as a film star and leading man. The movie is a psychological thriller adapted from a novel written by Patricia Highsmith.

The movie focuses on Matt Damon's character, Tom Ripley, a sociopath, who becomes enthralled with Dickie Greenleaf's carefree playboy lifestyle. Ripley eventually murders Dickie and pretends to be him to steal his life. Aside from Law and Damon, the movie also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jack Davenport, James Rebhorn, Sergio Rubini, and Philip Baker Hall.
