Warning: Contains a preview for Superman: Son of Kal-El #3!

Jonathan Kent, the new Superman, just got a costume upgrade in Superman: Son of Kal-El, which sees Clark Kent officially pass on the Superman mantle to his son. Jonathan, at the age of seventeen, will be taking over all of his father's duties as the original Man of Steel ventures off-world for a break. Naturally, with a new Superman, comes a cool new superhero suit, which was just revealed.

The first issue of Son of Kal-El saw DC Comics retconning Jonathan Kent's origins. His birth was in the middle of an "attempted invasion" of earth, which saw the Justice League taking on an armada of spacecraft. However, the most important event happening at that time was in the Fortress of Solitude, where Lois Lane was giving birth. It's positioned as a pivotal moment in history, with Wonder Woman acknowledging the potential importance of Jonathan in the future. Now a teenager, the time has come as Jonathan sets forth on his new adventure!

The first look Superman's new costume has been revealed by writer Tom Taylor. In his initial tweet, Taylor attached two pieces of artwork from series artist John Timms. The new Superman costume remains rather the same, apart from a few big exceptions. Notably, the House of El emblem has changed. Jonathan's new emblem is more in line with the original Superman logo that Clark wears, with the iconic S being more distinct. The other big standout is Superman's new golden belt which has a red middle. It's an impressive new look for the fledgling Man of Steel.

In an additional tweet, Taylor released a preview page that showcases Jonathan receiving his new costume from his father. It seems that Clark had it made for when the time was right. Now that he's officially Superman, Jonathon deserves a costume upgrade and the time is most definitely right. It's fortunate, too, as his Superboy costumes w, his old Superboy costume was left shredded in the first issue. Separate from the stylish new Superman costume, Taylor teases the first appearance of a new, very important character for the series without offering any additional details.

Over the last six months, with all that DC has set up, it's amazing to see Superman's son finally become the person he was always meant to be. Jonathan finally taking on the Superman mantle and getting a costume upgrade is super exciting. Readers are in for a treat as a new generation of Superman comics shifts focus to Jonathan Kent rather than Clark Kent and right now, it seems to be going great. Superman: Son of Kal-El #3 releases on September 14 in comic book stores and on digital platforms.
