HGTV's Brother vs. Brother star Jonathan Scott and actress Zooey Deschanel have been going strong in their relationship for about a year now. But fans are wondering – when did they first start dating, and have they crossed any big milestones in their time together?
Jonathan Scott first shot to fame as 1/2 of the team from the hit TV series, Property Brothers. Jonathan is the contractor and his brother, Drew Scott, is the real estate agent. Zooey, on the other hand, is a popular movie and TV actress best known for playing Summer in the blockbuster hit, 500 Days of Summer, and Jess in the hit TV series, New Girl. While this couple may have come out of nowhere, they truly do make the most adorable pair.
Jonathan and Zooey's relationship first began on the set of James Corden's Carpool Karaoke (via House Beautiful). Zooey and her sister, Emily, were pitted against Jonathan and his brother, Drew, for the segment in August 2019. The two really seemed to hit it off, even calling each other friends on Instagram. While they were very much getting flirty with each other, fans still believed Zooey was married. A source revealed the two became friends after the show and later developed into something more. Zooey was attracted to Jonathan's sense of humor and they bonded over their similar interests.
In September 2019, Zooey and her ex-husband, Jacob Pechenik, publicly announced their separation, though they split a few months prior. A week later, Zooey and Jonathan were spotted holding hands while out together. The couple then attended Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios and posted a group picture to Instagram. The next day, Zooey's ex filed for divorce and for joint legal and physical custody of their two children. In November, Zooey and Jonathan posted their first selfie together on Jonathan's Instagram during a date night. In December, they made their red carpet debut at the premiere of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. They attended the premiere alongside Drew Scott and his wife, Linda Phan. Jonathan even posted adorable Christmas-themed pictures on Instagram of the two of them. One was of Zooey as her character in Elf with Jonathan as her love interest, Buddy. In January 2020, Jonathan and Drew appeared on Today, where Drew pointed out how happy Jonathan has been. "See this smile? I haven't seen him smile like this in a very long time, and I think it's amazing to see him so happy," he said of his brother. After the coronavirus hit in March 2020 and everyone was ordered to stay home, Zooey and Jonathan cozied up together, staying safe and healthy. To keep busy, the two of them began sharing a glimpse into their lives and what they have been doing during the quarantine, which included playing music and doing jigsaw puzzles! In August 2020, Jonathan shared a sweet video to his Instagram celebrating the anniversary of the couple first meeting each other on Carpool Karaoke. The video was a montage of their special moments together.
