Ever since making a brief appearance in The 40-Year-Old Virgin in 2005, Jonah Hill has ascended as one of the most prominent comedic actors in Hollywood. The Judd Apatow underling continued down the comedic path with additional movies, such as Superbad, Knocked Up, Funny People, and several others, before transitioning into more dramatic work.

21 Jump Street (2012) 7.2/10

21 Jump Street 2012

At the time it was announced, much of the public scoffed at the idea of adapting the '80s cop show 21 Jump Street to the big screen. Once they saw it, however, they realized what an irreverent, subversive, rebellious, and downright hysterical film it could be.

The buddy-cop formula is turned on its ear when two inept undercover cops (Hill and Channing Tatum) are sent back to high-school to bust a drug dealer. Dealing with their own painful past, while attempting to act professionally, makes for a hilarious outing.

The Lego Batman Movie (2017) 7.3/10

You'll certainly notice a motif running through Hill's best movies, according to IMDb. And that is, Hill is at his most popular when partaking in big-budget cartoon franchises. Make of that what you will.

In 2017, Hill reprised the voice-role of Green Lantern in The Lego Batman Movie, the silly sequel to The Lego Movie. The plot tracks Bruce Wayne/Batman desperate to quash the criminal advances of the Joker, calling on several superheroes to join in on the effort to save Gotham City.

How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019) 7.5/10

As the voice of Snotlout, Hill has been a mainstay in the How To Train Your Dragon series. And according to IMDb, there's no slowing down for Dragons, as the third entry in the franchise continues to soar!

The Hidden World revolves around Hiccup's quest to locate a clandestine Dragon utopia after learning Toothless is not the sole Night Fury. Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) must find The Hidden World before Grimmel (F. Murray Abraham) seizes control of the utopia forever.

Superbad (2007) 7.6/10

Hill's starring breakout role came opposite Michael Cera in the uproarious teen-comedy Superbad, written by Seth Rogen and writing partner Evan Goldberg, way back when they were teenagers themselves. Hence the raw authenticity!

As the end of school nears, Seth (Hill) and Evan (Cera) can feel themselves drifting apart. Along with their geeky pal McLovin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), they procure mass amounts of booze and head to a rager to get drunk, talk to girls, and blow off some serious steam!

Moneyball (2011) 7.6/10

Hill earned the one and only Oscar nod of his career thus far for his work in Bennett Miller's Moneyball. The film earned an additional five nominations, including one for the much-deserved Brad Pitt, following a stellar turn.

The plot concerns Oakland Athletics owner Billy Beane and his unorthodox way of running his team. Rather than spending big money on star baseball players, he takes a sabermetric approach to find the best players on the cheap. Hill plays Peter Brand, the awkward number-crunching assistant of Beane who helps upgrade the team.

How To Train Your Dragon 2 (2014) 7.8/10

In the second leg of the blockbusting Dragon training saga, Hiccup and Toothless are put in the position to be peacekeepers after discovering a hidden ice cave rife with more dragons than they can count.

Hill once again reprises the role of Snotlout, although the character takes a bit of backseat this time. With a nearly identical Metascore rating (76/100), the film struck a chord among critics and general moviegoers alike. The film earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.

The Lego Movie (2014) 7.8/10

Hill reunited with his 21 Jump Street directors, Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, for the surprisingly well-made Lego Movie, which actually boasts higher ratings among critics (83/100 Metascore) than the general public. Go figure!

Hill voices the part of Green Lantern in the movie, which follows an ordinary LEGO worker who is suddenly anointed as the "most extraordinary" person in the company. As such, Emme Brickowski (Chris Pratt) is tasked with defeating the insidious dictator and save the LEGO empire.

How To Train Your Dragon (2010) 8.1/10

Hill struck it big in what would become a massive moneymaking movie franchise for kids in 2010. As Snotlout in How To Train Your Dragon, Hill provides friendship to series star Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) as a wacky and overconfident classmate.

Plot-wise, the story tracks a young Viking (Hiccup) who hunts dragons. Upon a hunt, Hiccup forges an unlikely bond with a dragon named Toothless. The pair become inseparable as they learn each other's customs. As for Snotlout, he may be dimwitted, but he's one of the most loyal friends Hiccup has. The film was Oscar-nominated for Best Animated Feature.

The Wolf Of Wall Street (2013) 8.2/10

Jonah Hill in Wolf of Wall Street

Thanks to the peerless Martin Scorsese, The Wolf of Wall Street marks a movie where the rubber meets the road. That is, it's a tremendous high-quality film that also happens to feature a fantastic performance from Hill. Finally!

The greedy, pill-popping, bacchanalian decline of hotshot stock trader Jordan Belfort (Leo DiCaprio) is just as hysterical as it is tragic, made all the more vivid by DiCaprio's blistering turn. Hill plays Jordan's business associate, Donnie Azoff, who parties hard, provides women as entertainment, and completely melts down by the end. The film bagged five Oscar nods!

Django Unchained (2012) 8.4/10

Although he appeared onscreen for a whopping seven seconds or so, the fact remains Django Unchained sits atop Hill's highest-rated movies listed on IMDB.

Quentin Tarantino's controversial, revisionist take on the Antebellum south follows Django (Jamie Foxx), a free slave who joins an eccentric German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to rescue his kidnapped wife, Broomhilda (Kerry Washington). Hill plays Baghead #2 in a brief cameo. The film nabbed two Oscars, one for Best Supporting Actor (Waltz) and one for Original Best Screenplay (QT).
