The Punisher star Jon Bernthal is trending on Twitter following Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige's tease that Charlie Cox's Daredevil might return in the MCU. Bernthal, known for his breakthrough role as Shane in the AMC series The Walking Dead, gained further recognition for his portrayal of Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, originating the role in the second season of Netflix's Daredevil. Bernthal later starred in an eponymous series as the vigilante who tries to clean up Hell's Kitchen's criminal underworld by any means necessary.

Having since shifted his focus to feature films, Bernthal has had an incredibly busy 2021, starting the year off with a role in Those Who Wish Me Dead alongside Angelina Jolie, following that up with memorable performances as the mobster Johnny Soprano in The Many Saints of Newark and tennis coach Rick Macci in King Richard. He's also starred in an adaptation of the stage play of the same name, Small Engine Repair, and can be seen next alongside Sandra Bullock in The Unforgivable, all in one year's time.

Now, following Feige's recent tease that Charlie Cox might be returning as Daredevil in the MCU, fans are hoping to see Bernthal reprise his fan-favorite role as well. In fact, there is so much support for bringing back Bernthal as the Punisher in the MCU that the actor's name began trending on Twitter. Check out a few of the tweets below:

Ever since Marvel canceled their slew of Netflix shows including Daredevil, The Punisher, and The Defenders, fans have been advocating for these characters to make the transition into the mainline MCU. In fact, there have been persistent rumors that Vincent D'Onofrio will be reprising his role as Kingpin in Hawkeye due to his relation to Echo. Charlie Cox has also been heavily rumored to appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home as the lawyer representing Peter Parker, as well as in She-Hulk since the show's titular character, Jennifer Walters, also happens to be an attorney.

It should be noted that Feige did not officially confirm Cox's return in the MCU, just that they would not recast Daredevil if they decide to include him in the franchise. However, rumors would suggest they already have. And, hopefully, the same goes for other Marvel-Netflix characters like the Punisher. If he ever sees the light of day in the MCU, Bernthal could also be back in the role.
