Warning! Spoilers for Injustice: Year Zero #8 below!

The Joker's toxic treatment of Harley Quinn has always been one of the most messed-up, abusive elements in comics. Thankfully, Harley has escaped the Clown Prince of Crime's violent ways, but after he hurts her once again, Poison Ivy decides to give Joker a taste of his own medicine.

Since debuting in Batman: The Animated Series, Harley Quinn had long been in a toxic relationship with the Joker. Despite the abusive treatment, Harley stuck around with her "Mistah J" for years before finally breaking free from his hold and starting a new, better life without him. She would develop a special bond with Poison Ivy, as the two became girlfriends and developed a healthy relationship as the two former villains became extremely important to one another. Harley and Poison Ivy have one of comics' best romances.

In Injustice: Year Zero #8 by Tom Taylor, Cian Tormey, Rain Beredo, and Wes Abbott, Harley breaks Poison Ivy out of Arkham Asylum. When Poison Ivy asks Harley whether she has a hideout, she notices that she has cuts on her face - in the last issue, Joker forced Harley to jump off a balcony, leaving her bloodied and bruised. After Harley tells her that one day the Joker is going to get her killed, an irate Ivy makes a personal visit to the villain and threatens him.

Harley Poison Ivy Joker

After waking up the Joker from his sleep, Ivy wraps his bodies in vines and tells him that if he ever hurts Harley again, "I will plant thorned things that will grow, slowly, through all of your organs." When the Joker scoffs at those remarks, Ivy calls him a "pathetic troll" and says he's lashing out at Harley because she's actually worth a damn, unlike him. She then tells him Batman sees him as "an object of pity" and that Harley feels the most sadness for him. Ivy lets him know that Harley's thrived despite his "rot" and that he's got no control. She keeps him alive only because Harley would never forgive her if she didn't.

Intimidating the Joker is no small feat. Ivy eviscerated him and left him bloodied with vines wrapped around his sprawling body. The Joker was straight-up embarrassed by Ivy, who was defending her closest ally and girlfriend - and he absolutely deserved every second of it. The book has a happy ending for the couple, as Poison Ivy surprises Harley with a trip to Vegas where the two get hitched. Their relationship is so much better than Harley and the Joker's toxic pairing. This issue proved Poison Ivy will always have Harley Quinn's back - especially when it comes to the Joker. Together, they're unstoppable.
