The Joker rides a jet ski in a strange but amusing video taken on a New York City river. The classic DC villain has had a resurgence in recent years thanks to his appearances in 2016's Suicide Squad and last year's Joker. Jared Leto played the Joker in the David Ayer film, though his role was smaller than many thought it would be. Since the movie's release, the director has explained Leto's part was more substantial in his original version the film, though that ultimately isn't what ended up making its way onscreen. Though there are no plans to release the Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad at this time, the director has shared details of the Joker's original storyline.

The Joker was next played by Joaquin Phoenix, in a standalone movie separate from the DC Extended Universe. His performance was lauded by many and earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor. However, the film was undoubtedly a grittier take on the character, and some took issue with its controversial portrayal of mental illness and violence. This ultimately didn't affect Joker's box office haul, as it's currently the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. The Joker's next film appearance is up in the air, though he won't be in James Gunn's upcoming The Suicide Squad or The Batman, which will feature other classic DC villains.

Though the Joker may not show up on the big screen anytime soon, this week, he popped up in an unexpected place: a New York City river. In a video posted by Twitter user KrissyLionz, a person dressed as the Joker can be seen riding a jet ski. Impressively, the Joker fan wears full makeup in the clip, as well as the villain's trademark purple coat. Check out the video below:

Though jet skiing is certainly a random activity for a Joker cosplayer to take part in, fans dressed as DC characters have been spotted out and about in recent moths, specifically Batman. At the start of the coronavirus pandemic, one person drove their version of the Batmobile around a city in Mexico, using a megaphone to encourage following safety guidelines. A different Batman then popped up in May, attending a Black Lives Matter protest in Philadelphia.

It's worth noting the Joker video was posted during the weekend of San Diego Comic-Con, when thousands of fans would typically be admiring each other's costumes on the convention floor. Since an in-person event didn't happen this year, it's nice one cosplayer got to show off their look anyway. Riding a jet ski may be an unusual way to reveal appreciation for a character, but it certainly shows commitment to the Joker.
