Warner Bros. announces the Joker Blu-ray release date and special features. Since the release of Joker back in October, it has garnered a great deal of buzz, mainly due to its controversial take and roaring success at the box office, becoming the first R-rated film to cross the billion-dollar mark worldwide. Now fans of the Clown Prince have a digital and Blu-ray release date to look forward to.

Starring Joaquin Phoenix and directed by Todd Phillips, who also co-wrote the script alongside Scott Silver, the DC story delved into how Batman’s greatest nemesis was born. Arthur Fleck aka Joker was a man isolated from society, bullied and a failure at every turn, including in his desperate attempt to become a comedian like his idol Murray Franklin (played by Robert De Niro). When things continued to go wrong, Arthur begins to transform into the maniacal Joker.

Now, /Film is reporting that Warner Bros. revealed the release date for what is arguably one of the most talked-about and controversial films of 2019, Joker. The film will be available for audiences on digital download on December 17, and on January 7, it will be available for audiences to enjoy in Blu-ray. Also, there is a list of special features that include: Joker: Vision & Fury, Becoming Joker, Please Welcome... Joker!, and Joker: A Chronicle of Chaos. To add to the excitement, the Joker Twitter added a 21-second video that shows Arthur’s face with and without makeup, as well as Phoenix's Joker laughter playing over the visual. The video concludes with Joker’s famous dance on the steps and the release date.

One of the main conversations since the release of Phillips’ R-rated DC tale has been whether or not a sequel will become a reality, and this becomes a franchise. Reports have gone back and forth on whether we’ll see a second installment, but Phillips has stated a deal is not yet in place for Joker 2. For now, though, Warner Bros. has announced the Blu-ray and digital release, giving fans something to look ahead too.

The jury may still be out for some critics and fans on whether they love the film or look at it more negatively due to the fear of it encouraging violence and other worrying political statements. However, despite the controversy, no one can deny the brilliance of Phoenix’s mesmerizing performance. His transformation from a man incapable of achieving anything to Gotham’s criminal mastermind has been touted as Oscar-worthy, and rightfully so. People will likely flock to order Joker on digital and Blu-ray, if for no other reason than to revisit arguably the best on-screen performance of 2019.
