A new set video for Joker 2 features Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn in action, appearing to commit a felony in Gotham City. Having been cast in Joker: Folie à Deux by director Todd Phillips, it's been revealed that Lady Gaga will elevate the sequel to Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix by giving the Clown Prince of Crime his classic love interest from the comics while also making the movie a musical as the depths of Arthur Fleck's twisted mind are further explored. Likewise, the new footage is already implying that Harley Quinn journey may closely mirror that of the Joker's from the first movie. In the new set video posted by Twitter user @Buzznviral, Lady Gaga can be seen outside a storefront. Throwing a garbage can, Lady Gaga (as Harley Quinn) breaks the front window and steals a mini television set. You can check out the new set video below:

It certainly appears as though Harley will be just as fed up with the city as Arthur Fleck, who became a problematic icon for the disenfranchised as Joker. While it's unknown if Gaga's Harley will be a psychiatrist at Arkham as she is in the comics, it makes sense that they'll find each other if they share the same sentiments and struggles.

Will Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn Mirror Joaquin Phoenix's Joker?

It's safe to assume that Harley Quinn and the Joker will begin their romance within the walls of Arkham State Hospital, the counterpart to the comics' Arkham Asylum for these DC Elseworlds films set apart from the main DC Cinematic Universe. Arthur Fleck's brutal refusal to play by society's rules in Gotham City as the Joker gave him a twisted celebrity status by the end of the first Joker. This is something that will likely continue with Joker 2 as something Harley could become attracted to, especially if she's a struggling and frustrated outsider herself.

However, this is assuming that the majority of the film's events actually happened, such as the massive riot Arthur caused after he officially became the Joker and the murder of Robert De Niro's Murray Franklin on live television. After all, the ending of Joker left audiences questioning what was real and what was in Arthur's head, such as his relationship with Zazie Beetz's character Sophie. To that end, a romance with Harley and her infatuation with Arthur based on his dark exploits as the Joker would suggest that the events of the first film did actually occur.

Regardless, it's exciting to see that filming is underway for the new DC movie. Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn is a major addition to the franchise that can only improve the Joker's ongoing story of darkness, especially with the sequel heading in a new direction as a musical. Joker 2 is expected to hit theaters in October of 2024.
