A new set photo from Joker: Folie à Deux sees Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn visit the now iconic Joker Stairs from the first movie. Todd Phillips is fleshing out his Elseworlds franchise with the Joker universe. After the major success of the 2019 original , Joker: Folie à Deux is a welcome though still surprising follow-up. Joaquin Phoenix is reprising the role of Arthur Fleck, a.k.a. the Joker. But he will be joined by another famous DC player, this time around with Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn.Lady Gaga was spotted on the Joker: Folie à Deux set at the iconic location that has become a Mecca for fans. As shared by Discussing Film, the actress was seen filming at the same stairs that Phoenix's Arthur Fleck dances down in the first Joker movie.
In the first Joker movie, the Joker Stair becomes a symbolic part of Arthur's transition into Joker. His dance is almost a sign of him emerging from his cocoon and shedding his previously unassuming, victim image. Though unconfirmed, it seems likely that Gaga's Harley Quinn will recreate some of the dance sequence, as another video shared from the set shows her dancing up the stairs:

While Margot Robbie played Harley Quinn in the DCEU, Lady Gaga's iteration will be quite different. Set in a world where Bruce Wayne hasn't become Batman yet, Harley comes into Joker's life a lot earlier. Joker: Folie à Deux will be a musical, and will reportedly be heavily from Harley's perspective. Given the title's translation is "madness shared by two," it seems Harley and Joker's relationship will play a significant role in the narrative.
From the sight of Harley Quinn visiting the steps and the background context of the protests to free Joker, there's a significant suggestion that she will be a fan of Joker, which could replace her therapist potential. In that context, the dance becomes a curiously morbid tribute to Joker as a fanaticist. Particularly as he would go on to murder Robert De Niro's Murray Franklin very nearly after his dance. That alone suggests the dangerous idolisation that Joker 2 seems to be invested is as an idea.
So far, it remains unclear if Joker: Folie à Deux will depict Harley as Joker's psychiatrist like in the comics. There have been theories that they are both patients of Arkham Asylum. Lady Gaga's Harley was recently seen in a mugshot image, seemingly confirming the suggestion. Set photos and videos have also given a good look at her Harley costume. Based on the design, it is likely meant to be reminiscent of Phoenix's Joker suit.
Needless to say, Lady Gaga as Harley is going to be one of the coolest 2024's comic book movie moments. With the musical aspect as well, it will be intriguing to see what Phillips has in store for audience members. As Joker: Folie à Deux gets closer to wrapping, it'll hopefully not be long until the first trailer is released.
