Animated kids’ series Johnny Test is getting a reboot, but when will it be released and what does the trailer reveal? Canadian-American cartoon Johnny Test follows the adventures of its eponymous character – an 11-year-old boy who lives in the suburbs of a fictional town named Porkbelly with his parents, talking pet dog Dukey and teenage twin sisters Susan and Mary. The latter duo are scientific geniuses who use their younger brother as a guinea pig for their many experiments and inventions.

Johnny Test was created by writer-producer Scott Fellows and began airing in 2005 as part of the now defunct WB network’s Kids’ WB block. The cartoon remained with Kids’ WB for two more seasons before it switched over to the Cartoon Network which aired its final three seasons between 2009 and 2014. Back in 2013, there were rumors of a seventh season happening, but Johnny Test ultimately ended its original run after six seasons and 117 episodes.

In 2019, Canadian production company WildBrain (who produced the sixth season of Johnny Test) stated it would release a series of web shorts titled Johnny Test: The Lost Web Series which sparked speculation the series might be coming back. That speculation proved to be true when WildBrain announced in 2020 it was teaming with Netflix to bring Johnny Test back for two new seasons and a 66-minute-long interactive special years after its Cartoon Network run ended. So, when is the Johnny Test reboot set for release and what does the trailer give away about the revived cartoon?

The first season of the Johnny Test reboot is officially set for release on July 16, 2021, and will premiere on Netflix rather than its old channel Cartoon Network. Scott Fellows will return as showrunner and executive producer for the rebooted version which several sources are predicting will feature around 20 episodes per season.

Judging by the official Johnny Test reboot trailer, there’s plenty in store for viewers of the revival.
