John Wick is re-imagined for a Pixar style poster. Co-directed by Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, the 2014 film John Wick was a surprise hit, racking up $86 million at the worldwide box office. Since the success of the first film, the Keanu Reeves-led John Wick franchise has gone on to spawn two sequels - John Wick: Chapter 2 and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum - with two more sequels, a spinoff, and a prequel series on the way. Despite its assassin-laden premise, the John Wick films sport a surprisingly heartwarming story at their core about a man and his dog.

The first John Wick film centers on Reeves' titular character, a retired assassin grieving the loss of his wife who is robbed by a group of aggressive men that steal his car and kill his dog, which was a gift from his spouse. Over the course of the film, Wick returns to his former profession and hunts down the men, revealed to be related to the head of the Russian crime syndicate. The Russians fear Wick due to his reputation and attempt to protect themselves to no avail, as he avenges his dog. With the subsequent properties delving further into the underground assassin lore of the franchise, fans are eager to see what surprises are in store in John Wick 4.

Does A John Wick-Pixar Crossover Actually Make Some Sense?

Though a John Wick and Pixar crossover is extremely unexpected, due to the dark and gritty nature of the former, there are aspects of the franchise that would suit the lighthearted Pixar universe well, like John's touching relationship with his dog. Additionally, there are dark elements and heavy emotional moments in many Pixar films, which ultimately make the lighter ones sweeter by comparison. Given Pixar's fixation with stories that focus on personal growth and coming of age, a John Wick-style Pixar movie could potentially center on him moving past the loss of his wife by finding a renewed purpose in his life, reconnecting with old allies, and forming a touching bond with a new furry friend, similar to Up. Of course, there would be much less bloodshed in the Pixar version of John Wick, which would certainly require an overhaul of the violent original story.

John Wick is not the first adult property to be re-imagined in a Pixar style, with Breaking Bad and even Alien getting the Pixar treatment from fans. The trend speaks to the innate humor in taking something dark and gritty and turning it into the opposite, which provides an amusing contrast and allows fans to imagine a happier world for beloved characters. It's unlikely that John will be able to find his way into the happily-ever-after world of Pixar in John Wick: Chapter 4, but the film will at least feature the charming bond between the assassin and man's best friend.
