Keanu Reeves, star of The Matrix and the John Wick movie franchises, weighs in on who would win in a fight: Neo or John Wick. In 1999, Reeves hit a new level of stardom when he played Neo in the Wachowskis' first Matrix movie, and the specific style of action in the film cemented him in Hollywood history. Reeves went on to star in the two Matrix sequels and is returning to the long dormant franchise for The Matrix 4, which is currently filming. However, the actor also leads another action franchise, John Wick, which kicked off with the first film in 2014.

The last few years have seen a resurgence of Reeves-starring projects and in addition to the ongoing John Wick franchise, with John Wick 4 and 5 having the green light, the actor returned to another of his iconic roles for this summer's Bill and Ted Face the Music. Joining co-star Alex Winter in the threequel to the series' late 80s/early 90s installments, Reeves once again returns as Theodore "Ted" Logan. However, while promoting Bill and Ted Face the Music, Reeves spoke about some of his other well-known and beloved film roles.

In an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the host asked Reeves to weigh in on a movie debate: Who would win in a fight between John Wick and Neo from The Matrix. Reeves, however, denied to answer the question. Instead, he ardently replied, “No! No… They wouldn’t fight.” He did concede however, that perhaps “Wick would try and help Thomas Anderson out in the real world.” Colbert jocularly solidified this as canon.

Reeves has a point about Neo and John Wick not fighting, of course, since they're both ultimately on the side of good, though they have different ways of going about it. Although Colbert offered a situation in which Neo accidentally killed John Wick's dog - citing the premise for the first movie in the Wick franchise - Reeves holds that the characters would never get into a fight because Neo would bring the dog back, solving the problem. From Reeves' answer it seems the actor believes both characters are inherently nonviolent people, that they would prefer to solve any issue without violence but must resort to it at times in their respective stories.

As an authority on Neo and John Wick, it's difficult to argue with Reeves' take on the characters, even if it's fun to discuss who would win in a fight. Although Reeves has offered his official take on the situation, that Neo and John would never get into a fight, fans can continue to debate who has the stronger fighting abilities - which is what's at the heart of any discussion like this. Perhaps new information about Neo and John's skills will come to light in the upcoming sequels, The Matrix 4 and John Wick 4, but for now fans can continue to argue amongst themselves about which action hero would win in a fight.
