It remains to be seen if Warner Bros.' upcoming additions to the DC Shared Cinematic Universe (established with Man of Steel) are by and large successful - not to mention, how many of them forge their own unique identities by exploring the superhero/comic book genre in fresh and intriguing ways. If nothing else, though, already the lineup of filmmaking talent either confirmed or rumored for these projects reads as being pretty strong - on paper, anyway.
We have Zack Snyder helming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and the two Justice League films; David Ayer directing from his script on the Suicide Squad adaptation; and Michelle MacLaren (Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones) calling the shots on the Wonder Woman movie. Meanwhile, John Wick helmsmen David Leitch and Chad Stahelski have now joined the list of filmmakers rumored to be in the running to oversee one of the other impending DC features.
This rumor arrives courtesy of Latino Review's El Mayimbe, though he notes that he's uncertain which upcoming DC project the pair are being eyed to direct. However, since his initial report, he's since dropped the following "clue":
DC CLUE! Sources also tell me Jason Momoa is a good friend of David Leitch & Chad Stahelski. Could the duo be up for directing AQUAMAN? RT!

Leitch served as both the stunt coordinator and second unit director on the 2011 Conan the Barbarian reboot starring Jason Momoa, so that pair have already worked together - lending more credibility to the idea that Leitch and Stahelski are being eyed to direct Momoa in Aquaman. Momoa had expressed a wish for Snyder to helm the actor's solo DC superhero feature, but that's not really plausible (given Snyder's other DC movie commitments).
By comparison, Leitch and Stahelski are reportedly attached to direct the comic book film adaptation Cowboy Ninja Viking (starring Chris Pratt) and have said they're already working on ideas for John Wick 2 - but, as of right now, there doesn't appear to be a set production timeline for either of those projects. The pair seem like a natural fit to work on some upcoming comic book movie - not least of all, because they had already done as much before (doing stunt work and/or serving as second unit directors on films like The Wolverine and V for Vendetta), prior to their breakout as directors.
John Wick received a good deal of critical acclaim - and not just for its well-staged fight sequences, offering the sort of grittier action that's in line with the general approach of the DC Cinematic Universe to date. The film also blended genre influences with excellent world-building, in a manner that seems to qualify its directors to handle a similar task on a comic book adaptation. On the other hand, some might prefer that Leitch and Stahelski stick to developing a John Wick franchise instead, for those same reasons.
We'll see if anything comes to pass from this new DC movie rumor, but there are no doubt many John Wick fans who would be down with that film's directors tackling a DC comic book adaptation - or, again, any upcoming comic book film. Rumors continue to persist that James Wan might also helm a DC movie (maybe the Justice League Dark movie that Guillermo del Toro's not sure he'll have time to make) - so again, it's encouraging that WB/DC is seemingly on the hunt for additional top-notch filmmakers to become part of their DCCU construction team.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will be in theaters on March 25th, 2016; Suicide Squad on August 5th, 2016; Wonder Woman - June 23rd, 2017; Justice League - November 17th, 2017; The Flash - March 23rd, 2018; Aquaman - July 27th, 2018; Shazam - April 5th, 2019; Justice League 2 - June 14th, 2019; Cyborg - April 3rd, 2020; Green Lantern - June 19th, 2020.
