The titular assassin in the John Wick franchise is a frequent guest at the Continental, an international hotel chain specifically for assassins. Contract killers have to do a lot of traveling for work. The targets don’t come to the killers; the killers have to go to them. And when they’re traveling, they need a discreet place to do their invoicing and get a good night’s sleep. The Continental provides those services and more, and all they ask is for no killing to take place on their premises — and a nightly fee, of course.

The John Wick series has some of the richest world-building that the action genre has to offer. The Die Hard and Lethal Weapon franchises never dug into Star Wars-level lore like the John Wick movies have. The John Wick universe has its own currency, its own code of ethics, and its own hotel chain for hitmen. The hotel chain is called the Continental, and as the franchise has expanded globally, the Continental has been revealed to be an international institution. Here is every Continental location the John Wick franchise has shown so far.

The New York Continental

The majority of the John Wick series’ Continental action takes place at the New York City location. Managed by Winston Scott, the New York Continental's operations run smoothly thanks to its hyper-competent concierge, Charon. Both Winston and Charon are old friends of John Wick’s who warmly welcome him whenever he returns to their branch of the Continental. Charon is also John Wick's greatest ally, while his role at the Continental is true to his mythological namesake, the ferryman of the underworld.

A ton of the John Wick franchise's major plot turns have taken place at the New York Continental. In the first movie, John Wick stays at the New York Continental when he arrives in the city in search of Iosef Tarasov to exact vengeance for the death of his dog. He returns to the location in John Wick: Chapter 2 when the sequel’s villain, Santino D’Antonio, decides to hide out there indefinitely, using the no-killing rule as a shield to protect himself from John’s wrath. However, he drastically underestimates that wrath as John ignores the rule, marches into the New York Continental, and kills Santino there and then.

The New York Continental becomes a battleground in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. When the High Table sends its goon squad to kill John at the Continental, Winston refuses to give him up, so the goons infiltrate the hotel. John and Charon, armed to the teeth, manage to fend them off. But the victory is short-lived, as Winston promptly turns on John and shoots him off the roof of the hotel.

The exterior shots of the New York Continental were filmed at the Beaver Building, located at 1 Wall Street Court at the intersections of Wall Street, Pearl Street, and Beaver Street, but the interior shots were filmed nearby at Delmonico’s, a steakhouse that can be found at 56 Beaver Street (via Looper).

The Rome Continental

The detailed world-building widens in John Wick: Chapter 2. John is tasked with killing Gianna D’Antonio by her brother, Santino. The hit takes him to Rome, where he clashes with her personal bodyguard, Cassian. After the job is complete, John and Cassian get into a brutal fight on the streets of the Italian capital. This fight sends them through the window of the Rome Continental, where they are politely reminded that conducting business on Continental grounds is strictly forbidden. So, John and Cassian stop fighting, each orders a drink at the hotel bar, and then they use words to resolve their conflict instead of fists.

The Spaghetti Western icon Franco Nero, best known as the original Django, makes a cameo appearance in John Wick: Chapter 2 as Julius, the manager of the Rome Continental. This branch of the hotel plays an important role in the plot of the first John Wick sequel. The Rome Continental employees’ response to John and Cassian’s fight establishes how seriously they take the no-killing rule before John kills Santino at the New York City location later in the movie. The filming location for the Rome Continental is near Piazza Venezia and looks out upon Trajan’s Column (via Forbes).

The Moroccan Continental

Halle Berry as Sofia in John Wick Chapter 3 Parabellum

At the beginning of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, following the shocking cliffhanger ending of John Wick: Chapter 2, John is declared “excommunicado with a massive price on his head. John meets with the head of the Ruska Roma crime syndicate and negotiates safe passage to Casablanca, where he meets up with his old friend Sofia Al-Azwar. She is a former assassin and current manager of the Moroccan Continental. Since time is of the essence during his visit to Morocco, John doesn't have a chance to check into the Casablanca location and sample its facilities.

Sofia is never shown on the job in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, but she’s likely a very strong and effective hotel manager. Given the efficiency with which she commands her attack dogs, the Moroccan Continental probably runs as smoothly as the New York and Rome locations under Sofia’s management. Being stuck behind a desk running a hotel doesn’t seem to have affected her skills as an assassin at all, either. When John recruits Sofia to take on a ruthless crime ring, she doesn’t seem to have lost any of her killing abilities.

The Osaka Continental

The Osaka location of the Continental is featured in John Wick: Chapter 4. In the third sequel, John’s vengeful crusade against the High Table to end their tyrannical reign over the criminal underworld once and for all takes him even further around the world than previous installments of the franchise, from New York City to Osaka, Japan. The Osaka leg of the journey involves a stop at the local branch of the Continental. The Osaka Continental is managed by Koji Shimazu. Like Sofia, this new character introduced in John Wick: Chapter 4 is another old acquaintance of John's and was a formidable assassin before he started running a Continental hotel.

Los Angeles

The Continental hotel in Los Angeles has yet to be seen on-screen, but it was announced as the setting of the long-in-development Continental-set John Wick spinoff TV series (via Cinema Blend). However, it's unclear if this Southern California branch is still part of the show's plans or if its creators are now focusing on the New York Continental instead. Regardless, the initial idea confirmed the location. The fact that there’s an L.A. Continental branch in addition to a New York location suggests that the John Wick universe might have a Continental Hotel in every major city in the United States.
