John Wick: Chapter 3 has a new working title that seems to promise a coming war between John Wick and the assassins of the High Table. After his ultra-violent introduction in the cult action hit John Wick, Keanu Reeves' unstoppable dog-loving assassin returned for 2017's John Wick: Chapter 2. In addition to upping the carnage, the second John Wick also took us deeper into the story's universe, a shadowy world of assassins at large among an unsuspecting populace.
By the end of Chapter 2, John Wick had run afoul of the crime boss council the High Table by breaking the one unbreakable rule: killing someone inside the assassins' refuge, the Continental Hotel. With the contract on his head raised to $14 million, John Wick ended the movie by going on the run. According to a recently released synopsis for John Wick 3, the third film sees Reeves' character fighting his way out of New York, using the "service industry" to stay alive.
As reported by Omega Underground, John Wick: Chapter 3 has received a new working title that further hints at a coming war between Wick and the High Table. Previously known under the working title "Alpha Cop," the film will now go by the code name "Parabellum." Not only is "Parabellum" Latin for "prepare for war," it also happens to be a model of Luger pistol. In either case, the working title seems perfectly appropriate for a film franchise that's all about weaponry and mayhem.
Given the super-violent nature of the previous two John Wick films, it's no surprise to learn the third one might involve an all out war scenario. But will John Wick have any allies in the new film or will he go it alone? We already know Laurence Fishburne will return to play the Bowery King, the leader of the Soup Kitchen empire, whose operatives cover the city disguised as homeless people and service workers. The movie's plot synopsis already hinted that Wick will take advantage of the Bowery King's set-up to evade the assassins on his trail. So it's a fair guess that the war Wick has to prepare for involves the Soup Kitcheners doing battle with the High Table.
Of course the third movie will also introduce new characters whose roles have not yet revealed. One of these is to be played by Halle Berry, whose character is described only as a woman "20-40 who has a small child." Does Berry play one of the Bowery King's hidden operatives and is it possible John Wick could end up bonding with her and her child? Wick of course found himself returning to his violent ways in the first movie after the death of his dog and the loss of his car. It would make perfect sense for John Wick: Chapter 3 to see Wick trying to once again escape the life, spurred on by a new relationship. Only time will tell what director Chad Stahelski, Keanu Reeves and company have in store.
