Warning: SPOILERS ahead for John Wick: Chapter 4Keanu Reeves says he would return for John Wick 5, but only if one specific condition were met. The ending of John Wick: Chapter 4 is conclusive for the character, as John kills the Marquis de Gramont and gains his freedom from the High Table. Succumbing to his injuries, John Wick dies just as the duel ends, with Winston and the Bowery King burying him next to his wife.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Reeves revealed that he would be willing to return for John Wick 5, but only if franchise director Chad Stahelski was involved. He explained that, while he's open to coming back into the role of the Baba Yaga, he hopes John Wick: Chapter 4 offers a conclusive ending for the character. Check out what Reeves had to say below:

I don't know, I guess I'm going to have to lean on never say never. I mean, I wouldn't do a John Wick film without Chad Stahelski. We'd have to see what that looked like. For me, it feels really right that John Wick finds peace.

What John Wick 4's Ending Means For John Wick 5

While Reeves confirms he would be open to returning as John Wick so long as Stahelski is involved, the finality of John Wick: Chapter 4's ending would make it difficult. Winston and the Bowery King stand over John's grave at the end of the movie, with the King speaking about where he may be in spiritual terms. Their conversation indicates John is truly dead, finding peace in both life and death after his duel with Caine.

However, since viewers haven't seen his body, some are questioning if John Wick really died - there's still the possibility that he's in hiding to ensure his safety following his freedom from the High Table. Winston's dialogue in the film's final scene could be construed as knowledge that John is alive somewhere, the gravestone being a ruse to ensure nobody else tries to find and kill him. If that's the case, then John Wick 5 could confirm it by having something else transpire that brings John out of hiding once more.

Whether John is alive or dead, though, John Wick: Chapter 4 brings his story full circle, as he learns to accept the prospect of death so that he can be free. If John were revealed to be alive and jump back into action in another movie, it may cheapen the thematic elements of the latest installment. However, if Reeves and Stahelski were to return, John Wick 5 would likely justify its existence while bringing plenty of familiar action sequences that the franchise is best known for.
