Actor Donnie Yen says goodbye to Keanu Reeves in a new video from the John Wick 4 set. While the next chapter in the John Wick franchise continues to film, its newest cast member has officially wrapped. One of Hong Kong's top action stars, Yen's filmography includes notable films such as the Ip Man franchise, Rogue One, and Mulan. Yen is also credited with bringing mixed martial arts (MMA) into Asian mainstream cinema through the choreography in most of his films.

Since Yen is well-versed in an array of martial arts, including Tai Chi, Kickboxing, and Karate, he's a perfect addition to the John Wick cast. The film series is renowned for its action sequences, particularly its fight choreography. In order to better develop the titular character's enrapturing fighting style, director Chad Stahelski opted to use as few stunt doubles as possible. Because Reeves is also well-versed in several martial arts, the production was able to utilize his fighting skills to pull that off. Adding another seasoned martial artist like Yen to the mix was a good choice.

Yen's video serves as an interesting behind-the-scenes look at the bond he and Reeves created during the filming of John Wick 4. The Rogue One actor can be seen hugging both Reeves and Stahelski throughout the video. Yen even showed off a few parting gifts from his famous co-star and director, including a personalized martial arts fighting stick that reads, "Thank you Donnie. You're the best. -Keanu." While Yen clearly enjoyed his time working on the movie, after spending four months away from his family, the actor is "finally going home." Yen ends his video with one last selfie with Reeves on the set.

Given Reeves' reputation as one of Hollywood's most likable actors, it's no surprise he and Yen hit it off. Although information about Yen's character is not currently known, the chemistry between the two stars is sure to shine through. With every film in the franchise receiving near-universal praise, casting talented martial artists like Yen will surely translate well to the big screen. Fans can look forward to seeing how Yen's and Reeves' bond plays out when John Wick 4 releases on May 27, 2022.
