Warning: Contains SPOILERS for John Wick: Chapter 4!There is a John Wick: Chapter 4 post-credits scene that teases the continuation of a major storyline. The fourth John Wick movie follows Keanu Reeves' assassin as he goes to war with the High Table in a final attempt to become free from this dangerous world. John Wick 4 puts John on a globe-trotting mission to kill everyone associated with the High Table who could have some power over him and his life. This means encountering some old friends on his path to challenging the Marquis Vincent de Gramont (Bill Skarsgård) to a dual, which will either end with his freedom from the assassin world or John Wick's death.

The storyline allows Caine (Donnie Yen) to play a major role in John Wick 4. A blind assassin and former friend of John Wick's, Caine is hired by the Marquis to kill John early on in the movie. This leads to repeated encounters between the characters. Donnie Yen's character is selected to be the Marquis' nominee to fight in his place once John issues the dual. He does help make sure Keanu Reeves' character makes it to the dual location and earns his freedom by shooting Wick twice. While this would seemingly give Caine a happy ending after John Wick 4's ending, a post-credits scene surprisingly continues his story.

Is Caine Dead In John Wick 4's Post-Credits Scene?

The John Wick 4 post-credits scene teases Caine's potential death. After gaining his freedom from the High Table after the dual, Caine is shown walking with flowers as he goes to reunite with his daughter. The happy scene takes a turn when a hooded figure begins walking toward him. The John Wick 4 post-credits scene shows Akira (Rina Sawayama) approaching Caine and she pulls out a knife as she gets close. A cut to black happens before the scene can reveal if Caine dies at Akira's hands, though, leaving their fates left for another movie to answer.

The teased confrontation between Akira and Caine comes as she seeks to fulfill her promise from earlier in the movie. Caine kills her father and the Osaka Continental manager Koji (Hiroyuki Sanada) because he is protecting John Wick. Koji's death leads Akira to meet up with John again and tell him that either he needs to kill Caine or she will. Since Keanu Reeves' assassin character does not kill Donnie Yen's blind hitman in the dual, John Wick: Chapter 4's post-credits scene confirms that Akira intends to get revenge for her father's death, even if it is not revealed if she succeeds in killing Caine.

What Caine's Death Would Mean For John Wick 5

Caine's death could be a big deal for a potential John Wick 5. Despite how determined he was in hunting John, the franchise's lead assassin still played a part in making sure that Caine got his freedom. It indicates some level of forgiveness and understanding on John's part about Caine's circumstances and desire to be reunited with his daughter. Akira killing Caine in John Wick 4's post-credits scene could then be quite upsetting for John if John Wick 5 ever happens. That would potentially mean John Wick 5 could see John Wick and Akira become enemies, especially if she blames him for her father's death.

The answer to if Caine dies in John Wick 4's post-credits scene might not have to wait until John Wick 5 to come. The end credits sequence indicates that an Akira and Caine spinoff movie could happen and show what happens between them. The John Wick franchise is already expanding with its first spinoff movie, Ballerina starring Ana De Armas, so one centered around Akira and Caine that builds on John Wick: Chapter 4's final tease could be coming too.
