John Wick: Chapter 4's mysterious new characters are highlighted in a series of new images from Keanu Reeves' upcoming action film. After the explosive events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Reeves' titular assassin is set to return with a vengeance in the upcoming fourth installment, which is directed by longtime franchise director Chad Stahelski. The film will see Wick uncover a method to take down the High Table, which sets him on a collision course with a powerful new enemy and some old friends. In addition to Reeves, the film sees the return of Ian McShane as Winston and Lance Reddick as Charon, as well as a host of new characters.
A handful of new images from John Wick: Chapter 4, as shared by Collider, provide a closer look at some of the sequel's new characters, including those played by Bill Skarsgård, Shamier Anderson, Rina Sawayama, and Hiroyuki Sanada. In addition to showing off Wick's new potential allies and enemies, the images also include fresh looks at Reeves and McShane, and Laurence Fishburne as the Bowery King. Everything We Know About John Wick: Chapter 4's New Characters
In addition to bringing back a number of familiar faces, John Wick: Chapter 4 seems to be expanding the world of the franchise in a big way just in terms of the number of new characters being introduced. Although not included in the new images, Donnie Yen's Caine looks like he will be a significant opponent for Wick just judging from the John Wick: Chapter 4 trailer, which shows the two characters dueling it out with pistols and swords. Yen's new character seems to be closely connected with Skarsgård's Marquis, who serves as the sequel's main villain and a significant figure at the High Table who wants to take Wick down.
Sawayama and Sanada also feature John Wick: Chapter 4 as Akira and Shimazu, respectively. Akira remains very mysterious, but the trailer for the film does feature her using a bow and arrow to dispatch enemies, a franchise first. Shimazu features briefly in the trailer wielding a sword, and comments from Sanada himself would suggest that his character may actually be one of Wick's few allies in the film. A character who was not featured in the trailer, however, is Anderson's Tracker, pictured above with a dog. Almost no information is available about this character just yet, meaning he could end up being a friend or a foe.
The new characters in John Wick: Chapter 4 follow a similar trend to the characters introduced in past installments in the sense that they are not only widening the world of the story but also helping to flesh out aspects of Wick's past. Several other new actors that are not pictured but still confirmed to appear in John Wick: Chapter 4 are Clancy Brown, Natalia Tena, and Scott Adkins. While many of the new characters featured in the upcoming film remain shrouded in mystery, a good number of them will seemingly present major challenges to Reeves' titular hero.
