John Wick was not only one of the surprise hits of 2014, but also was used to bring Keanu Reeves back into the conversation of top action movie stars. Reeves is no stranger to the title after hits such as Point Break and The Matrix, and it was the success of John Wick that has given him the chance to elevate the cast around him for John Wick: Chapter Two. Along with Common and Ruby Rose (who are playing assassins), the big new addition to the sequel's cast is Reeves' Matrix co-star Lawrence Fishburne.

Throughout the filming and marketing of the sequel, details on Fishburne's character have been sparse - though he not been completely kept in the dark. Reeves and Fisburne have been seen sharing the screen again in the John Wick: Chapter Two trailers, but the context of their scenes is unknown. Now, a new photo from the movie brings the pair back together again.

EW has shared the photo below, which features John Wick face to face with the Bowery King of New York, played by Fishburne. Both men are in their finest attire, with plenty of guns in the background in case of an emergency. In addition to the photo, Reeves shared his excitement to once again be working with Fishburne and teased some details about his character:

It was so cool to have a chance to work with Laurence Fishburne again, with the history that we have professionally and personally. I ran into him, and he was saying that he was a fan of the first film, and was there anything in the second film. I said, ‘As a matter of fact there is!’ So, we sent him the project and he responded to the role. Lawrence is playing a character called the Bowery King. He is a leader of this underworld in New York City. He knows everything about everything and he helps John in his mission. It was cool to act with him again and hopefully people will enjoying seeing us reunited.

Keanu Reeves and Lawrence Fishburne in John Wick: Chapter 2

After Fishburne served as the mentor to Reeves in The Matrix trilogy, it will be a great callback to those times for fans of that franchise who turn out for their latest collaboration. Viewers shouldn't expect Morphius-level statements from the Bowery King, but there are plenty of chances for John and him to have an enlightened conversation about guns, violence, and who knows what else.

It will be interesting to see how big of a role Fishburne has in the John Wick sequel, when everything is said and done. After all, audiences are expecting twice as much action as before, and while Fishburne has previously been utilized in action scenes, that possibility has not been teased to happen here. Instead, he could should simply be supplying Wick with the gear he needs to fend off a heard of assassins out to collect a hefty bounty. Hopefully, Fishburne will still get the chance to dodge a bullet or two as well in the film, with the potential for additional appearances in the future.
