John Wick became an unexpected hit of 2014 when Keanu Reeves teamed with former stuntmen from the Matrix movies, Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, to create an over-the-top revenge thriller with an excessively frenetic and previously unseen style of gun-fu combat.
Quality aside, many of the talking points surrounding the movie mostly surrounded the pure level of violence displayed and the number of innovative action scenes and killing combos brought to the screen by Stahelski, Leitch, and Reeves. To visualize the violence doled out by by the protagonist, George Hatzis of Visu put together an infographic detailing the data around every death in John Wick.
Now John Wick: Chapter 2 is here, and the formerly retired assassin is more deadly than ever. The movie takes a deeper dive into some new lore and covers more of John's backstory, but none of those things make the movie any less lethal. Returning for the sequel, Hatzis is back to chronicle the carnage of John Wick: Chapter 2 with a new infographic. An impressive feat, considering the movie is still in theaters.
This time around, Wick's notable stats include a total of 128 confirmed kills with 10 different weapons, firing 302 shots with an accuracy rating of 80.1%. As usual, John aims for the head, registering 104 total headshots, meaning 34% of the times he pulled the trigger resulted in a headshot, and his headshot to kill ratio was 81%, but some deaths included more than one headshot, so he's just throwing his curve at that point. Obviously, everyone's going to want to know how these stats compared to the first movie. If it wasn't obvious from watching John Wick: Chapter 2, there's a lot more death. John kills 77 people in the first movie, meaning his 128 kills in Chapter 2 are an increase of about 66.2% from the first outing. His taste for variety didn't see any change. In both movies, his kills are comprised of 10 different weapons. Despite an abundance of targets, Wick actually saw an overall decrease in accuracy, though his headshot to kill ratio skyrocketed (again, he's just fluffing his numbers with those multiple headshot fatalities) from 63.6% of kills the first movie to 81% in the second movie.
Based on the data alone, it's clear Chad Stahelski and the other collaborators behind John Wick have raised the bar for the sequel. If a third movie does, in fact, get green lit (based on the box office, that should be expected), what should audiences expect? It might be a tall order to surpass the body count of Chapter 2, but with every assassin in the world gunning for John Wick, he'll have no shortage of targets.
