While John Krasinski states that he has had no further discussions with Marvel Studios about returning as Reed Richards, it's still possible that The Office and Jack Ryan actor can appear as Mister Fantastic in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie. Krasinski says that the last time he had a discussion with Marvel Studios was when they asked him to come to the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness set (per The Wrap). Though this is plausible, this isn't the first time that an actor has lied about his or her ties with the MCU.

There is a lot of speculation about Krasinski returning as Reed Richards ever since his debut as the Earth-838 variant in the Doctor Strange sequel, but a confirmed cast list has yet to be released for Fantastic Four. Out of all the cameos in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, John Krasinski's Mister Fantastic introduction is one of the more popular ones, as his character was never revealed in any of the trailers. Krasinski may be honest when he says he hasn't been in talks with Marvel Studios, but he can also be playing the long game, especially when it comes to keeping MCU secrets.

Several Actors Have Lied About MCU Appearances

Ant-Man, Matt Murdock, And Spider-Man

Marvel Studios has a long history of its actors lying about their roles in MCU projects to keep excitement for upcoming films, and there's a chance that Krasinski is doing that right now. A recent example of this is Andrew Garfield's return as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Garfield was hounded in interviews leading up to the movie's release, but he kept his lips sealed despite evidence proving otherwise. Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man return to the big screen was a hard secret to keep, and he wasn't the only one to lie about his appearance in that movie.

Charlie Cox is another actor who avoided saying anything about his character in No Way Home. He was another fan favorite that made a cameo toward the beginning of the movie. Another actor that lied about his MCU role is Paul Rudd. Rudd was asked about being Ant-Man for Marvel Studios back in 2013, and he pushed it off by saying it was all rumors. Now, Rudd is one of the most iconic characters in the MCU as he is about to be the first avenger to meet Kang in his third solo film. John Krasinski could be lying to avoid spoilers, just like his colleagues.

Krasinski Leaving The Role May Be Good For Marvel's Fantastic Four

John Krasinski in Multiverse of Madness

Though Krasinski returning as Mister Fantastic is a popular fancast, it may be best if the role is recast for the Fantastic Four project. His variant of Reed Richards has been through plenty of heroics in his career, so it may be better to have a younger and more inexperienced version of Richards in the film. This allows for the character to have more growth as he goes through his adventures in the MCU. Having an older version of Richards may make his character arc more difficult to display on the screen.

Whether Krasinski continues as Reed Richards in the Fantastic Four movie or not is up in the air. There is a new Reed Richards actor theory that may make more sense than Krasinski's return, so Marvel does have several options to fill the important role. Until a cast list is confirmed for the movie, though, there's a possibility Krasinski can return to the MCU.
