John Krasinski is Jack Ryan in New Trailer

A new teaser trailer for Amazon's upcoming Jack Ryan series features John Krasinski's take on the popular Tom Clancy character.

Amazon's latest teaser trailer for Jack Ryan features John Krasinski's take on the popular Tom Clancy character. Ryan was first introduced to the world in Clancy's 1984 novel The Hunt for Red October, and would go on to star in eight follow-up books by the prolific author. Ryan would first make the jump to theaters in director John McTiernan's 1990 film adaptation of Hunt, in which he was played by Alec Baldwin.

Jack Ryan has since been the focus of four additional films, including 1992's Patriot Games, 1994's Clear and Present Danger, 2002's The Sum of All Fears, and 2014's Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Although it did decently at the box office, Shadow Recruit drew mixed reviews from both critics and fans. Now, Amazon is gearing up to reinvent the Jack Ryan character once again, this time with a self-titled TV series. Taking over the lead role is John Krasinski, best known for his years playing Jim Halpert on NBC comedy The Office.

Amazon has released a new teaser trailer for Jack Ryan, offering fans another look at how Krasinski will handle assuming the well-known role. While Krasinski might at first seem like a strange choice for the part, the actor demonstrated his action chops in last year's Michael Bay-directed war drama 13 Hours. Check out the action-packed teaser above.

John Krasinski talks Jack Ryan season 1

Krasinski will be the fifth actor to portray Jack Ryan, and follows in the footsteps of several notable names. After Baldwin kicked off Ryan's film legacy in Hunt, the character would then be played by Harrison Ford in both Patriot and Clear. Sum and Shadow Recruit would both try to shift the focus toward a younger version of Ryan, with Ben Affleck playing the character in Sum, and Chris Pine taking over for Shadow. Krasinski certainly possesses less of an action resume heading into the role than did Ford, Affleck, or Pine, although he's actually got a bit more than Baldwin had going into Hunt.

After the tepid response that both Sum of All Fears and Shadow Recruit received, Jack Ryan seems due for a character resurgence. It remains to be seen if Amazon's series will provide him with that, but the trailer above looks promising enough. One big factor working in Jack Ryan's favor is the presence of Carlton Cuse as showrunner, whose reputation of successful TV shows precedes him. If anyone can make this work, it's likely Cuse.
