With the Fantastic Four set to join Marvel's Cinematic Universe thanks to the Fox-Disney buyout, an epic piece of fan art imagines John Krasinski as Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, in the MCU.
The history of the Fantastic Four on our screens is a complicated one, and from an unreleased '90s movie to Tim Story's noughties movies and Josh Trank's Fant4stic, directors have struggled to get the superpowered team right. However, with an impending reboot of the series, whoever nabs the role as Richards to join the MCU is sure to be a very lucky man indeed.
Courtesy of Reddit, an image began circling showing a rugged Krasinki suiting up in a modernized version of the Fantastic Four's signature outfit. Check it out, below:
Notice that the image channels a very MCU vibe, looking like Chris Evans' bearded Captain America from Infinity War. Fans may be used to more of a clean-cut Richards thanks to Ioan Gruffudd and Miles Teller's performances in the role, but Krasinski certainly looks the part as a gruff, mad scientist, version of the character. The post goes on to imagine the ways the Fantastic Four could join the ever-expanding MCU, but most Redditors seem to agree that Krasinski would be a stellar choice to lead the latest iteration of the four brainy heroes.
With Disney's acquisition of Fox far from finalized right now, it remains to be seen exactly how the Fantastic Four are incorporated into the MCU. With Trank's 2015 movie being something of a box office disaster, everyone fully expects that the MCU will start again and release Teller from his obligation to play Reed again. In fact, Reddit isn't the first place to tip The Office's Jim Halpert for the part, with Screen Rant suggesting him as Reed back in 2017. Given that he was one of the finalists in the race to play Cap, he has been in the MCU's sights for several years now. Also, with a move from TV into movies like Aloha, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, and The Hollars, Krasinski has exactly the kind of star power that the MCU is notorious for casting.
While the introduction of the X-Men and the Fantastic Four alongside the existing roster of heroes and villains is presumably being saved for Phase 4, expect a huge casting race to follow. Better yet, Krasinski is still interested in joining the MCU by his own admittance, so who knows what the future holds. Now, all we need to do is find Sue and Jonny Storm, and a Ben Grimm, and we are good to go.
