Details for The Hangover 3 have been kept largely under wraps, but bit by bit rumors of the plot have been trickling out. So far, we've learned the Wolf Pack might be heading to Tijuana, and that the rest of the pack will possibly be breaking Zach Galifianakis' character, Alan, out of a mental institution.
One thing we know for certain is that there will be plenty of familiar faces in the film: Heather Graham , Mike Tyson, and Ken Jeong are all set to return for the newest installment, and it looks like there will be some fresh faces as well, including John Goodman.
Variety reports that John Goodman is in talks to join the cast of The Hangover 3 in a small role as an antagonist. Goodman recently voiced a character in the movie ParaNorman and also stars in Ben Affleck's upcoming film Argo.
It will be interesting to see what role director Todd Phillips and co-writer Craig Mazin (who also partnered for The Hangover 2) have dreamed up for the versatile actor. Goodman has been great in so many different roles throughout his career that it's fun to imagine some of the possibilities.
With the mental hospital scenario, it's easy to see him as a doctor who makes Alan's escape that much more difficult - or perhaps he will play a Tijuana policeman who locks the men up. Maybe they'll have to write secret messages in their underwear - telling them where the drug money they accidentally stole is buried? Okay, maybe not the whole underwear or drug money scenarios; however, the point is, with these movies, anything is possible.
The real question is whether or not The Hangover 3 will be better than The Hangover 2 (read our review), which was criticized for being a less funny re-hash of the original. Deviating from the formula of the first two films is a good start, but what will be even more important to audiences is to bring something fresh to the characters.
The Hangover 3 is set to be released May 24, 2013.
