We have our first look at John Boyega's first post-Star Wars project, a crime drama called Naked Singularity, directed by It writer Chase Palmer. Palmer wrote the script with writer David Matthews (Narcos, Vinyl), based on the 2008 book A Naked Singularity by Sergio De La Pava.
The first image comes exclusively from Variety. It features Boyega as his character Casi, a young, successful New York public defender who, after losing a case and being suspended as a result, begins to question the criminal justice system he works to protect. Questioning his whole career, Casi becomes involved in a high-stakes heist through an unpredictable defendant named Lea, played by Olivia Cooke. The first look image (below) shows Boyega in what appears to be a courtroom.
Boyega first gained attention for his starring role in the 2011 sci-fi film Attack the Block, before getting cast as Finn in the new Star Wars trilogy in 2015. He won the prestigious Bafta Rising Star Award the next year, and continued to rise in prominence with roles in films like Kathryn Bigelow's Detroit and Pacific Rim: Uprising. Risking his own career, Boyega has recently been extremely vocal against police brutality and racism, taking part in the worldwide protests that started in the wake of George Floyd's death.
Naked Singularity also stars Ed Skrein, Bill Skarsgård, Tim Blake Nelson, and Linda Lavin, and will be Palmer's directorial debut. There is no set release date.
