The new issue of Ultra Jump was released in Japan, and with it came some more long-awaited details on JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's ninth installment, The JOJOLands.

The new preview covers a few pages and includes some text, a full sketch of the new Joestar (which had leaked previously), and several other sketches of various scenes and panels in an early state. Included among that is a summary of the premise of JoJo's part 9, which states that "this is the story of a boy in the subtropical islands who goes on to become extremely rich." This is very similar to dialog from early chapters of parts 7 and 8, which included a phrase beginning with "this is the story..." followed by a short description of the entire story to come.

Aside from the premise the sketches on the page also feature some interesting information. The main new sketch show police officers at an airport with palm trees, which is certainly suggestive of a (sub)tropical setting. There are many notes alongside the sketches, which were translated by jojo-news.com. Some of these notes are particularly intriguing, such as mentions of surfboards and volcanic lava. While the exact setting of The JOJOlands isn't known yet, the ending of part 8, Jojolion, suggested that it would take place "in lands far to the south" of Japan. There are, of course, many volcanic islands in the Southern Pacific Ocean, so that much seems to have been true.

While the preview doesn't contain a tremendous amount of new information, it is enough that fans can start to get a feel for what the new series will be like. The sailboat has continued to feature prominently, which suggests that this adventure might be sea-based, a first for Jojo. The "lands far to the south" comment was in reference to something called a Locacaca fruit, which has incredible powers of equivalent exchange. The Locacaca played a big role in Jojolion, but ultimately all surviving examples were lost. If the new Jojo were to find the Locacaca in these islands, that would certainly set him on a path to riches. But of course, something that valuable is likely to have lots of other people after it, and most of them people who don't play nice. The new character is said to be a descendant of the new JoJos continuity's Joseph Joestar, seen at Part 8's end, so he may have some Joseph-like qualities. There has also been much speculation about characters that some believe resemble Jolyne, suggesting that there may be other Joestar descendants in this one, just like the ever-popular Stardust Crusaders and Diamond is Unbreakable era.

The JOJOLands may still be a little ways off, but fans of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure have been given plenty to speculate on in the meantime.
