Jim Caviezel is a 'Person of Interest'; Cary Elwes Joins 'Wonder Woman'

Two hotly-anticipated shows that will premiere this upcoming fall television season, writer Jonathan Nolan/executive producer J.J. Abrams' crime drama Person of Interest and NBC's new Wonder Woman series, have now added some more familiar faces to their respective casts.

Jim Caviezel has been cast as the lead opposite Lost's Michael Emerson in the new series from Chris Nolan's sibling, while Elwes will play a loyal comrade to Adrianne Palicki's Diana Themscira (or Prince) in the new Wonder Woman TV show.

Person of Interest revolves around Reese (Caviezel), a presumed dead ex-CIA agent who is recruited by the reclusive billionaire Finch (Emerson) to battle crime in the streets of New York City. Deadline has also confirmed that Oscar-nominee Taraji P. Henson (Boston Legal) will costar as a homicide detective - one who (presumably) forms a precarious alliance with Reese and his illegal fight for justice.

Once again the parallels to Nolan's work on Batman are obvious, but that's all the more reason to be excited by the prospect that Person of Interest will be a gritty and thought-provoking crime serial in the same vein. Abrams' involvement assures that the show should have solid production values as well.

Caviezel hasn't been extremely busy since he starred in The Passion of the Christ, but he did headline AMC's remake of the cult classic The Prisoner back in 2009. He proved himself to be a fairly engaging leading man in films like Frequency and The Count of Monte Cristo, and Caviezel will hopefully do likewise in Person of Interest as well.

Wonder Woman TV Show Costume

Wonder Woman's return to the small screen has been picking up steam lately as well, between the casting of Palicki as the titular heroine, Elizabeth Hurley as the villainous Veronica Cale, Tracie Thoms as Diana's perky assistant Etta, and now (according to Deadline) Elwes as the acting CEO of Themyscira Industries, Henry Detmer.

Those that read the Wonder Woman casting call list might remember that Detmer is described as being "grounded, intelligent and deeply devoted to Diana. He runs the day to day operations of the company and acts like an Uncle to Diana although he could be a possible love interest down the line." Between that description and the fact that Palicki is technically young enough to be Elwe's daughter... there's a risk that Henry and Diana's relationship could come off as more skeevy than touching.

Elwes has made for a charismatic personality onscreen in the past (The Princess Bride being an obvious example), but those that know him best for the Saw franchise, or were unimpressed when he showed up in the last season of The X-Files, might be a bit wary about his choice to join Wonder Woman. Then again, based off the early script review and character descriptions, there's more reason to be concerned about the quality of this show than casting of secondary characters.
