Jessica Simpson has admitted that Nick and Vanessa Lachey never actually gave her a gift. After days of speculation, the singer said she does not recall receiving a gift from her ex-husband.
Simpson was one of the biggest pop stars of the early 2000s thanks to hits like "Irresistible" and "Without You." The singer kept a clean look about her as she grew up in Texas as the daughter of a preacher and was taught to save sex for marriage. Before Simpson battled it out on the charts between Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera for the number one spot, she befriended them on the Mickey Mouse Club but did not get picked for the show. The singer married 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey, but the couple divorced in 2005 after starring in their own reality TV show together, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.
It all began earlier this week when Hoda Kotb interviewed Nick and Vanessa Lachey. During the interview that was supposed to promote the couple's new reality TV show. Kotb brought up the fact that Simpson had remembered the couple sending her a nice baby gift, to which Vanessa replied she must have been mistaken. According to BuzzFeed, Vanessa felt she had to address the issue during the interview. She did not want to take credit for something she did not do.
Simpson tried defusing the situation when she spoke with Andy Cohen on Thursday, saying that she had received nothing from Nick or his wife. The mother of three made it very clear she did not expect a baby gift from the couple saying “Um, well, I don’t really know I got a gift per say.” She added her gift from her ex-husband was he was happy and content in his life. She felt she had crushed his heart when they separated. The writer said she believed Nick thought she would never grow up, but she knew she would not stay a little girl forever.
Cohen was not about to let Simpson squirm her way out of an awkward situation and bluntly asked if the couple had ever sent her a gift. Simpson’s reply was short and simple, “I didn’t get a gift” from them. For fans, this marks the case closed on gift gate. The singer ended the speculation by saying she had no idea who the gift actually came from.
