Netflix dropped the final season of Jessica Jones on June 14th, and with it, hammered the final nail into the coffin that is the Netflix MCU. While a bold vision when it began – four superheroes teaming up on the small screen – the team failed to live up to the hype of their silver-screened counterparts. As the last show of that era, it also fell to Jessica Jones to tie up not only her series own plot threads but bigger ones from the Netflix MCU at large.

Below are 10 plot threads still unresolved after Season 3 of ‘Jessica Jones’

10. Jessica’s Full Power Set

Throughout the series, we are teased with the possibility that Jessica possesses even more power than she lets on. This is best exemplified in Season 1, where the character is shown with the ability to fly, she’s ‘just bad at it’ according to her. In actuality the cost of displaying Jessica’s full powerset proved prohibitive, so they were forced to cut some of them back, flight included. Are there any other powers Jessica was holding back? The series’ untimely cancellation makes it unlikely we’ll ever know.

Jessica and Luke

Few romances throughout the lifespan of ‘Jessica Jones’ have been as titillating as the one between our titular protagonist Jessica Jones, and Harlem hero, Luke Cage. While their relationship is on firm ground between the panels – they even have a child – on the screen, things are a lot murkier. At season’s end, we are teased with some type of future regarding the two of them, but it’s a far cry from the strong romance the two share in the comics.

Jessica and Erik

Never one to settle down, Jessica found love in the likeliest of places this season; a bar. There she meets Erik Gelden, a person with powers, emotional issues, and a drinking problem. So, right up Jessica’s alley.

Initially just a one-night hookup, things quickly become more, as Jessica is entrenched in Gelden’s problems, and by the season finale, she thinks he’s a good man but does not trust him. Not a permanent critique however and judging by how the last shot we get of Gelden is him working with Detective Costa, he may just prove Jessica wrong.

Erik is a mutant?

Speaking of Erik, it is never disclosed where his powers originate from. Unlike Jessica, who got hers in a freak accident, we are led to believe that Erik was born with his. Now, those born with their powers in the Marvel Universe are known as mutants, but this definitely wouldn’t fly in the notoriously mutant-less MCU, so we are left in the dark as to the true origin of Erik’s powers.

In the comics, he goes by the name Mind-Wave and is a confirmed Mutant. was this a tease towards a larger mutant reveal in the MCU? Based on the cancellation of the Netflix MCU television show, probably not, but it was cool Easter Egg either way.

Jeri Hogarth

We leave Jeri at the end of this season exactly as we found her at its beginning, alone and terrified of dying. Earlier, she’d attempted to reach out to an old college flame to have someone there for her, but in typical Jeri fashion, the entire enterprise blew up, poisoned by her own schemes.

If this is the last time we see Jeri Hogarth, then there are still questions surrounding how she comes to terms with dying from ALS, and if she ever truly escapes her loneliness.

Trish Walker, Superhero?

Fans of the Superhero Hellcat, the alias of intrepid radio host, Trish Walker, finally got their wish as the character appeared on Jessica Jones this season. They may have immediately regretted it, however, as she bears few resemblances to her comic-book counterpart.

In the end, Trish finds herself in prison, putting a serious damper on her heroic aspirations. In positive news, she does seem to finally fully understand the consequences of her actions but staring down the barrel of multiple murder charges, it’ll be a long time before Hellcat is back on the prowl.

Malcolm Ducasse

Another example of a character we’re left with very little resolution to is Malcolm. Presented this season as struggling to find his purpose, while working for Hogarth, he becomes disillusioned with the lines she’s willing to cross for justice. He ultimately wants to strike out on his own, as his own PI and Jessica gives him the opportunity to do so at the end of the series, as she leaves him with the keys to Alias Investigations. Will Malcolm be as happy as a PI? Maybe, but 3 seasons worth of plot development say otherwise.

The Defenders

As the last of the Netflix Marvel TV shows to air their final season, it fell to Jessica Jones to put a bow on a ton of the universes plot threads. One place where it failed to do so was with the ‘Defenders’ New York’s street level team. While we’re told Rand is on sabbatical, and Luke makes an appearance, there is no overlapping narrative to the team anymore, and no mention of Matt at all, except for a throwaway joke about scaffolding. If this is truly the end of the Defenders era on Netflix, then it was a meek one.

Kilgrave[tldr_position][tldr_position]

In the season finale, as Jessica contemplates leaving New York for good, Kilgrave’s eerie purple lighting covers her. Now, this could have just been Jessica having flashbacks of her abuser, it could also mean that there is a portion of Jessica’s mind that will never be free of his mind control. It’s an interesting plot thread, but not one that will ever be resolved.

Jessica Jones, Hero?

The last unresolved plot thread is one that looms over the entire story as well as the series itself; Jessica Jones, Hero or Fraud? In the end, we’re led to believe that Jessica has finally found her resolve. Despite losing everything she turns to the camera and smiles, prepared to return to New York and be the hero she was meant to be. But knowing Jessica, it won’t last, because it never does. As viewers, we’re left wondering what happens to Jessica Jones after she turns around in that train station.
