[Mild SPOILERS for Jessica Jones ahead.]
Hell's Kitchen is a small neighborhood, but that doesn't mean there's only room for one hero on the block. Earlier this year blind lawyer Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) took on Wilson Fisk AKA Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio) on the Netflix Original Series Daredevil; the dark, gritty success of that series paved the way for Jessica Jones, which has now earned nearly universal acclaim for its gripping, somber tale.
While both of these heroes have had absorbing adventures on their on, it has long been established that they will be crossing each other's paths at some point in the near future - by fully teaming up in The Defenders. But will Miss Jones and Mr. Murdock cross paths before then?
A new promo for Jessica Jones has been released on Twitter, suggesting that the hard drinking detective from Alias Investigations may soon enlist the legal help of Nelson & Murdock (see the video above). You've got to hand it to Matt and Foggy (Elden Henson), they know how to brand their firm; the braille on their business card is a nice touch. This preview is about as brief as any promo will get, but effectively gets across the notion that these characters will cross paths down the line ( without teasing any specific storyline involving both heroes).
Those who have made it through Jessica Jones already know that Daredevil doesn't show up at any point. The show instead opts to make Daredevil's presence known through an appearance by Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) who ambiguously alludes to her relationship with Matt rather than directly address his existence. This ensures that Claire will be the running thread that connects members of The Defenders -- similar to Nick Fury's (Samuel L. Jackson) role with The Avengers. However, it's not clear if this new promo is teasing that Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) will show up in Daredevil season 2, or if Marvel will wait to bring them together in earnest for The Defenders.
Not having Daredevil show up to help out Jessica in her own series was probably a smart move on the part of Marvel. While it would have been a treat to see Murdock flipping and kicking his way through Kilgrave's (David Tenant) brain-washed henchmen, Jessica Jones is Jessica's story and benefited from minimizing the assistance she received from others. Luke Cage (Mike Colter) already appears in the series, so bringing in Murdock would have most certainly proven distracting -- not to mention the fact that Daredevil would've been fairly defenseless against Kilgrave's abilities.
Whether or not we see Jessica Jones and Daredevil cross paths before The Defenders remains to be seen, but this promo certainly keeps hope for that possibility alive and well.
Jessica Jones and Daredevil Season 1 are now available on Netflix. Luke Cage Season 1 and Daredevil Season 2 will arrive in 2016. Iron Fist and The Defenders will arrive sometime thereafter.
