Season 3 of Jessica Jones is set to start filming later this week. Even though Disney is creating a streaming service all their own, Netflix continues to pump out Marvel content. Later this week, season 2 of Luke Cage will debut and there's been a positive reaction to what the sophomore effort holds. This is much needed after the second season of Jessica Jones was found to be a bit underwhelming for some viewers. Despite that, Netflix and Marvel announced rather quickly that Jessica Jones will return for season 3.
Since that announcement was made, there's been little information on the followup season. Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg had a good idea in mind for what the next story would be prior to the renewal, so the last few months have been spent finalizing those plans. In doing so, audition tapes and character breakdowns teased what they appear to be planning. Following Ritter saying filming would begin soon, we now know she most certainly wasn't joking.
SpoilerTV revealed that the third season of Jessica Jones begins filming later this week, on Wednesday June 20. Not only did the outlet reveal when it will begin, but also when it is expected to end, on Dec. 7. This will give season 3 the typical six month filming schedule, which should indicate another 13 episodes are in store. Ritter will be back in the leading role, while Rachael Taylor (Trish Walker), Eka Darville (Malcolm), and Carrie-Anne Moss (Jeri Hogarth) are expected to return.
Netflix has yet to slow down and let these shows breathe, with the lone exception, really, being season 2 of Jessica Jones thanks to The Defenders. The start of filming on Jessica Jones season 3 once again shows how quickly they are moving to keep bringing new seasons of their five different Marvel shows coming. Once Wednesday rolls around and cameras start, Ritter's solo series will join The Punisher season 2 as currently being in production.
With filming just hours away from beginning, it shouldn't be too much longer before some real details on season 3 surface. Casting decisions have undoubtedly been made already, so now it's just a matter of Marvel (or a trade) announcing them. The Jessica Jones casting breakdowns previously revealed four major roles that the third season required. So far, none of those roles have been announced publicly. If any of these characters are involved during the early parts of production, the latest additions to Jessica Jones could be announced shortly. Stay tuned to Screen Rant for the latest filming and casting updates on Jessica Jones season 3.
Jessica Jones season 3 will likely debut on Netflix in 2019.
