Jessica Jones Season 3 Audition Tapes Hint at New Characters

A batch of audition tapes for season 3 of Jessica Jones further tease the recently revealed new characters for the Marvel series.

Jessica Jones Season 2 Directors

New audition tapes have surfaced for Jessica Jones season 3, teasing the characters and the start of production. It wasn't long after season 2 of Marvel's Jessica Jones arrived on Netflix that the show was renewed, and it's not surprising considering the critical reception the series continues to garner. Though most of the Marvel-Netflix shows have gained critical acclaim, Jessica Jones the series and character have stood above the rest. And while there's no telling when the new season will arrive given the loose release schedule of The Defenders universe, signs are pointing towards it being soon.

We recently saw some character breakdowns for Jessica Jones season 3 that not only teased some new additions to the cast, but hinted that filming for the show could start soon. With The Defenders not expected to get another season and Luke Cage and Daredevil getting their next batch of episodes this year, only Iron Fist and The Punisher are scheduled to arrive in 2019. That means Jessica Jones season 3 could drop next year, building on the continued momentum of the show.

That Hashtag Show came across some more information regarding the character breakdowns they previously uncovered. A trio of audition tapes showed up on Vimeo, with two being for 'Elliot' and one for 'Zelda.' The names match the ones for the new characters THS uncovered and the dialogue clearly points to Jessica Jones.

Naturally, not much is revealed in the audition tapes, but they indicate that things are moving forward quickly. Elliot, at least, seems to have professional ties to Jessica, though they certainly don't seem to get along. He's also familiar with substance abuse, causing THS to guess he could be Dennis 'D-Man' Dunphy. That character has been somewhat revived recently in the comics, so it's not out of the question.

Whoever Zelda and Elliot really are and what role they'll play in Jessica Jones season 3 may come to light soon if more tapes emerge. Star Krysten Ritter said last week that Jessica Jones season 3 will film soon, so we should gain set photos and videos as well. We may even get a tease for the show or release date during San Diego Comic-Con this summer.

In the meantime, Luke Cage and Daredevil are coming up quick. For the former, a new Luke Cage clip features Misty and Colleen, proving the ties between the show and Iron Fist will continue. Whether that means a Heroes for Hire or Daughters of the Dragon show in the future is unknown, but clearly the upcoming Disney streaming service isn't hampering the Marvel-Netflix universe.
