The new trailer for Jessica Jones season 2 shows Jessica searching for answers about her own past. Marvel and Netflix are looking for a return to form next month with the return of Jessica Jones. The first season led by Krysten Ritter is one of Marvel's most praised seasons, and after over two years, the wait to see more of her solo adventures is coming. Just like the Marvel series that came before, Jessica Jones season 2 is just as (if not more) mysterious.
The synopsis for the second season teased Jessica digging into her own origin to discover more about herself, but also a new threat she will face. The first trailer didn't do much in terms of revealing what the story would be beyond that, with the focus leaning more on the fact the show is returning, and when it would do so. Now, an actual story based trailer gives us the insight we've been waiting for.
Netflix debuted the second trailer for Jessica Jones season 2 today, one that sets up what is next for Marvel's alcohol-fueled hero. With a focus largely on Jessica's origins and how she gained her abilities, the trailer easily establishes the intrigue for a second season. But, with a killer on the loose in New York, Jessica will be tasked with taking him or her down. Additionally, Vulture unveiled a new poster for the second season.
Knowing that season 2 of Jessica Jones will heavily focus on what happened to Jessica before she became a hero isn't much of a surprise. Her ties to IGH was one of season one's biggest unanswered questions, and it felt like they set that up to pay it off soon. Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg thankfully appears to have done just that, but also raises more questions and twists in the process. With Jessica appearing to be over her head, Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor) professes Jessica's need for a sidekick, so maybe Trish will take on the Hellcat persona here too.
Possibly the biggest question raised by this trailer isn't tied to Jessica's search into her past, but rather the new threat she'll be put up against. There's been no word on who the villain will be in season 2, but we do know Kilgrave (David Tennant) will return in a limited capacity - as teased at the end of the trailer. There was speculation about Typhoid Mary taking on that role, with Leah Gibson or Janet McTeer being theorized to play the part. That hasn't yet been answered, and even if it doesn't surface before the series starts streaming, it won't be too much longer until fans can start their binge.
Jessica Jones will return on Netflix on March 8, 2018.
