Looks like there is a new watering hole in Hell's Kitchen. https://t.co/LtQWSe0ZtJ

From Thor throwing back boilermakers with Dr. Erik Selvig to Steve Rogers realizing he can no longer get drunk in Captain America: The First Avenger to Tony Stark's somewhat glossed-over stint with alcohol abuse in Iron Man 2, there's no denying that booze seems to bind many of the heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When it comes to Marvel Studio's Netflix properties like Jessica Jones -- where everything's a bit bloodier and a lot more painful -- the desire for a drink seems even more potent.
While a new promo for the series does not directly feature any of the character from either of Netflix's superhero offerings, it does maintain the gritty tone established in Daredevil. The neon lights of Josie's Bar -- a spot frequented by Matt Murdock, Karen Page, and Foggy Nelson -- flicker and go out, soon replaced by similar signs showing that there's a new watering hole in the neighborhood.
Despite its short running time, the promo does an effective job of tying together the myriad elements of this universe. Luke's is an obvious reference to Luke Cage (Mike Colter), who we know is the owner of the bar. The trailers for Jessica Jones have thus far already confirmed that the titular heroine (Krysten Ritter) knows her way around a drink, but now it looks like she'll have a connection with the owner. Perhaps she gets a discount for her hero work.
It's a smart play from a creative standpoint. Luke's bar could act as a communal location where actions and characters can logically cross paths with one another. This sort of technique has been employed before, such as with Kadie's Bar in Robert Rodriguez' Sin City, where narrative and narration are in turn handed off from one point to another. Given that the characters from Daredevil are prone to imbibing a little after work, this short little teaser definitely suggests that Matt Murdock and his crew may soon find themselves the drinking buddies of a certain super-strong private investigator and her friend with the unbreakable skin.
Daredevil season 1 is now available on Netflix. Jessica Jones will be available starting November 20th, 2015, followed by Luke Cage season 1 and Daredevil season 2 in 2016. Release dates for Iron Fist and The Defenders on Netflix have not yet been announced.
