Jersey Shore: Family Vacation’s Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino is expected to be released from prison very soon. Sorrentino, known for being a part of the rowdy roommates that took over the New Jersey shore, was sentenced for tax fraud back in January (he was convicted last October) and he's very soon going to be seeing life outside lock-up.
Sorrentino appeared in all six seasons of Jersey Shore which aired from 2009 to 2012. Rabid fans will remember that Sorrentino was charged with tax fraud in 2014. He was accused by the U.S. government of not paying $8.9 million in taxes. Sorrentino and his brother Mark had established a corporation that paid for personal expenses, but both failed to report any income. In January of 2019, Sorrentino pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion. This was part of a plea deal and he was sentenced to eight months in prison.
It is being reported by APP that Sorrentino could be released from prison any day now. Sorrentino’s original release date from Otisville Federal Correctional Institution is set for September 13, 2019. For Mike, getting out of prison one or two months earlier than expected is good news, the only downside being he will most likely be released into a halfway house instead of going home to his wife Lauren Sorrentino. Dan Wise, a federal prison consultant believes that Sorrentino will spend a couple of weeks in the halfway house before being allowed to return home and start his home confinement. According to Wise, a halfway house could be more difficult than prison, “There’s no partying, no drugs, nothing (at a halfway house) — he might be able to go home on weekends.”
Since first getting into trouble, Mike Sorrentino has been open about his struggle with opioid addiction. Since pleading guilty to the charges, Sorrentino has given back to the community by telling his story to younger children and speaking at addiction facilities. His Jersey Shore castmates have supported him through his entire journey. DJ Pauly D recently visited Sorrentino in jail, giving an update that he is staying positive.
Currently, Jersey Shore: Family Vacation is airing new episodes that were filmed before Sorrentino was sent away. The season shows fans insight to his court sentencing and his cast mates reactions. The popular franchise that airs on MTV has every intention of having Mike rejoin the rest of the cast and follow his life once he is released from prison. Before Sorrentino was sent to jail to start serving his sentence his fellow Jersey Shore: Family Vacation castmates threw him a going away party that had all his favorite food and showed viewers that they are a band of brothers who will stick together through thick or thin.
New episodes of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation air Thursdays at 8 pm EST on MTV.
