What We Know About Renner's Snowplow Accident

Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye in MCU

Initially labeled as a weather-related accident, Renner is said to have injured himself while snowplowing his Nevada property on New Year's Day morning, with his Snowcat rolling over and running over his leg, causing significant blood loss. Renner was tended to by a neighbor, who applied a tourniquet to the wound to slow the blood loss until paramedics could arrive, with the actor subsequently being helicoptered to a local hospital. Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve recently offered further insight into how his accident came to be, stating that Renner was in the midst of helping someone stranded in the snow when he was subsequently injured by his own machinery, in spite of safety measures installed on the Snowcat intended to prevent such a matter, though the Washoe Sheriff's Office have assured they do not "suspect any foul play."

Renner's family offered an optimistic update on his injury the day after he was taken to the hospital, confirming he had been diagnosed with "blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries." The official statement from his family did, however, assure he had undergone surgery and was in critical, but stable, condition and recovering in intensive care. Much like his own statement above, Renner's family expressed their gratitude at the outpour of love from fans and well-wishes for his recovery.
