Jeremy Renner May Replace Colin Farrell in 'By Virtue Fall'

Jeremy Renner is seemingly in an unofficial competition with Ryan Reynolds for the "Actor Starring in Every Upcoming Movie" award of 2010: the 39-year-old actor is now holding talks with Voltage Pictures chief Nicolas Chartier to star in yet another upcoming project, By Virtue Fall.

Sheldon Turner - who received an Oscar nomination for co-writing Up in the Air last year - is directing By Virtue Fall, based off a screenplay of his original creation.  The plot of the film revolves around an ex-con who is fresh off a prison sentence for a crime he did not commit and is out for revenge against the man who set him up - his former mentor and friend.

Eric Bana is reportedly attached to the project, which actor Colin Farrell recently left for undisclosed reasons.  Renner would replace Farrell in the dramatic feature, which is tentatively scheduled for release next year and will most likely not hit theaters before the 2011 awards season gets underway.

Renner will have difficulty fitting By Virtue Fall into his already jam-packed schedule.  He is already set to star in the upcoming P.T. Anderon project, The Master and recently joined the cast of next year's Mission: Impossible 4 - not to mention the rumors that Renner might star in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and his role as Hawkeye in The Avengers.

The Oscar-nominated star of The Hurt Locker will not be the first thespian to take on a slew of new projects following an appearance in a critically-acclaimed and/or financially successful film - name actors like Jude Law, Will Ferrell, and even Colin Farrell appeared in at least five different movies released over the course of a year.

Will moviegoers tire of seeing Renner onscreen by the time The Avengers arrives in 2012?  While he won't be playing the lead in most of his upcoming projects, Renner does face the risk of becoming overexposed during the next couple of years - here's hoping he manages to avoid that fate.
